Unfortuneately, there are a number of things. I have a '90, and the following things are in my trans:

1) Solenoid valve. Allows the fluid circuit to opeate the OD clutch;
2) Trans connector. Where the electric circuit connects the trans to the engine harness. Locatd on the driver's side, halfway up. 3-prong socket plug. Gets dirty or loose. Cleaning this has helped the two times my trans wouldn't shift into OD.
3) All plugs between the engine controller on the passenger side engine compartment to the trans.

I don't remember any relays for this- it should be a straight circuit between the engine controller and the trans.
