I've got a 97 Dakota with a 5.2L V8. Just recently I've noticed that it's not throwing as much heat as it should be (probably because it's been -37C here lately).
If the temp gauge can be trusted, the engine is running at about 80 degC (176 degF), and I measured a 20 degC drop (about 36 degF) between the inlet and outlet lines of the heater core at the firewall.
Airflow in the cab seems normal in all settings, but the air temperature is much lower than it should be.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have the same problem the only thing I figure it could be is the thermostat. I changed mine to a 180 from the stock 192 this summer. The heat was alot stronger before. I'm going to change it back, it's takes too long for mine to warm up. I also blocked about have the rad with a piece of cardboard to get it to heat up in the meantime. Hope some of this helps.

After the checking of your thermostat, flush the ENTIRE COOLING SYSTEM, and a seperate flush on your heater core. When re-filling, use MAXIMUM a 60/40 mix of coolant to water and you're problem will be solved. Use hot water to flush if possible!!!!
