The simple answer is YES you can wire any fog lamp to the existing stock wiring in the Dakota provided you do not exceed 85 watt bulbs, the stock fog lights on the Dakota are only on when you pull the know out (this is a neat little setup, removed the need for a toggle or second switch for the fog lights), all other exterior lights are turned on via turning the switch to the right.
The factory setup come with a relay for fog light in the engine compartment, therefore the switch is only activating the existing relay and not powering the fog lights directly, the relay once closed with power the lights straight from the battery or a fused line in the system.

Hi,

I'm trying to wire my new APC fog/driving lights directly to the wires for the existing, factory fog lights. I removed the plug from the factory wires and checked them; with the switch off, I have power (12.5V) at both wires. When I pull out the fog light switch, the wire with the tracer loses power and the other wire continues to have 12.5V. So when I hooked up the new light, it's on all of the time! Please help.

Here's my email: fta-solutions@hotmail.com

Thanks.

Hi I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for some
help with my led lights and would greatly
appreciate any input. I just purchased new
aftermarket headlight assemblies for my 99 dakota
that have 2 wires for a led strip that I'd like to
have come on when I turn my fog lights on. Can
anyone tell me the best and safest way to wire
them?

BJ
