Read the Dec.2003 issue of Motor Trend. SRT-4 ran 13.9. We all know that MT's editors can't drive. Also, it is very tricky to get a FWD car to hook up. Even a seasoned drag race veteran could screw up a run with a FWD because they are used to hard launches that set's all the weight on the rear axle. It requires much more skill to get a FWD into the 13's. Kick that MT editor out of the car and put an experienced FWD racer behind the wheel with some drag slicks up front and the SRT-4 will easily run 13.8's.
Also, it is quite possible that the SRT-4 you saw run a 14.0 was a 215hp 2002 model. In 2003 they upped the HP to 230 and they installed LSD. Most runs I've seen for the 2002's were between 14.1 and 14.4sec. The LSD helped more than the extra 15hp.

I agree with you R/T Blues. Iv seen the turbo PT cruisers (same setup) with a bit of work at the track run well into the 13s. So the potential for the srt4 is excelent.
Never went to the mopar nats but we did show up at our local track on mopar day. We didnt know it was mopar day. OOOPS. They lest us test are car anyway.

I'll probably go again this summer. That's if my bud is back from Iraq by then. He takes his supercharged 5.2 1995 rc Dak up there and runs it. I'll usually take my R/T and make a pass or two, but my R/T is slow. I'm lucky if I hit 15.0. I guess that's OK for a 4100lb truck. I wish it would go 14.5 or better. I hate it when a 4.7L Dak, or a 5.4L F150, or a 5.3/5.7L Chevy gets a jump on me. They usually win. An R/T should be able to recover from a 1/2 car length on any of those vehicles. Mine won't! I have to stay on my toes so I can get at least an even start. My R/T is bone stock. I will probably never modify it. I'm waiting for that HEMI!! I'll probably die waiting for a Hemi Dakota.LOL!

Yeah I know how you feel. The best I got my truck to run is a 15.3. The 1 good thing about it is it usualy hooks pretty hard on the stock rsa goodyears, so it helps me get the jump on the other guy. I wish the track was 1/8th mile some times.
Not sure what dodge is planning to do with the dakota in the next few years. Who knows if it will ever see the hemi. I hope they dont destroy the style to bad. Why not try to fit the new hemi into your truck. Call it your hemikota. Hope your budy comes back from iraq in one piece. Dosnt seem to be going to good over there.

I have owned my 1997 Ram 1500 4X4 since July of 1997. I purchased it used with 19,000 miles on it, I should have suspected some abnormalities with it from the day I bought it, the Tires were wearing uneven! The front two tires were wore bad on the outside, The two rear tires were worn bad on the inside (at 19,000 miles?) and the truck shimmed while driving. (Three sets of tires later it still shimmies).
At 72,000 miles the TRANSMISSION fried! I had to have the Trans completely rebuilt at my expense!
$2700
At 95,000 miles the REAR END fried! I had to have the rear end completely rebuilt at my expense!
$1600
I now have 110,000+ miles on the truck and a few days ago I was driving home after dark and the headlights QUIT working! I could not get them to come on at all!
The Headlight Switch is FRIED! and they want $150+ to fix that!
I live in the country and believe me when I say when it gets dark IT'S DARK I had to drive over 50 miles with Fog Lights through a narrow winding gorge!
I am a Handicapped driver with only one leg and I drive and brake with my left foot. I must have transportation that I can depend on and I try to maintain them.accordingly in order to avoid breakdowns on the road as I cannot walk any great distance without difficulties. For the first time in my life I own a vehicle that I cannot depend on and do not trust on the road because something could go wrong at any time and leave me stranded!.
I know several other people that own Dodge Trucks and they have had problems with, Motors clacking, Transmission failure both Automatic and 5 speed Manual, Headlight Switch failure, Automatic Door locks, 4 Wheel Drive engaged lights don't go off, Armrest's that crack and break, etc.
What's the matter Dodge, can't you guys build a truck that is worth what we have to pay for them or what? I would never buy another Dodge Truck!
I have owned several Chevrolet Trucks since I started driving in 1957 and I've never had one problem with any of them in fact I still have a 1976 Chevy 4X4 that I bought new that I still depend on and drive when the DODGE goes DOWN! Do You Dodge boys know the saying, Like a rock.

the only problems i've had with my dakota has been the o2 sensor,and the heat&a/c switch went out the 4wd didn't work when i got it,i think its just a vacuum line though.in all fairness the 4wd on my old 89'z71 didn't work either.i'm not to crazy about the 4wd engagement on any of the new trucks gm,dodge,ford,whatever.i prefer the locking hubs myself,you have to get out,but when their locked,their locked.

The problems I have had with my truck are...
bad power window moter.
ball joints replaced before 20,000. Didnt break on me but one was about to.
the converter always seems to lock up at the wrong time. Some times you have to floor it to get it to kick out.
Diff let go on me last year when I got stuck in the snow.
Dont have any complaints about the engine except for it drinks WAY to much.

I do drive it in the snow but the ten inch tires all around on a 2 wheel drive truck with a 360 makes it not such a great winter driver.
And my car has 15 inch wide tires on the rear with only enough tread on them to make them legal. It dosnt even have a heater. Its a race car with plates. The salt is not good for them either. No body cruises main st in the winter in sub freezing temp.

Well I am far superior to any of you. I am more intelligent and have better taste. Too bad the airbags on my busted ass Durango deployed after I hit a rck while I was masturbating in the dark Arizona desert. Other than that it's been fine. I'm sure Germany will start WWIII any day now and invade somebody even though the land I'm on was stolen from Mexico and Bush has already started WWIII, but I do digress I'm sure.
