On a '98 4x4 5.2L Dakota the driver side front caliper inner brake pad wears out and the outer shows no wear. Replaced caliper and it still wears the same way, I'm going crazy trying to figure what's causing this. Passenger side pads wear normally. TIA...

lube the slider pin
check the pins for wear
the caliper may be rocking on the pins

Thanks for the reply, slider.

Yeah, I thought of that sliders have been never-seized, no wear seen on pins...
no clue what's the cause of this ;-(

Hey Deano,,,

just a heads-up, I wouldnt use "Never-Sieze" on those slider pins. I did that once on a Cavalier I used to have and the heat from the brakes made the Never-Sieze harden up solid! Took FOREVER to get the calipers back off to clean up the pins. It hardened so much that the calipers would'nt slide at all and I ended up warping a perfectly good set of rotors because of it.
Im usuming the Never-Seize you used is the gray pasty stuff with graphite in it,,right?

Anyway,,I just use thick high temp wheel bearing grease on my pins now,,,works like a charm!

just my $.02 worth.

the "standard" never sieze is gray because it contains aluminum powder, for high heat applications use the copper colored never sieze, which has copper powder suspended in the mix instead of aluminum.

Yeah, well I used the pure nickel never seize (price was right- got it at work ;-) which I believe is rated up to 2400 F so I think the heat issue would be covered. Also I might be wrong, but I think the copper mix is actually rated for lower temps than the pure nickel...

I'm thinking and dreading that I'm gonna have to break the ball joints, etc, pull the spindel off and replace that and realign to see if that is the cause of this...can't think of anything else.

Sil-Glyde. It's made for brakes and used by pro's.

Can be found at Napa and some other parts stores if they didn't remove the product from the shelves for a place to sell cheezy ricer sh*t!

Oh, couldn't resist but that is true.

I use Sil-Glyde. Stays liquid. Quiets and lubes.
I had to put some on my brand new truck a few months ago on the rear disk brakes. That and a touch up on the roters with the rotary sander to stop that embaressing brake HUM in reverse!
