Hey y'all nice website. I'm 17 and just about to turn 18 and my dad owns a Chimney Sweeping Business here in NW Arkansas. Well as spring approaches i'm probably going to be doing more work for him so my Camaro has to go. He's had two Dodge Dakotas's the first being a '98 SLT Club Cab with the 5.2L and now a 2001 SLT+ Quad Cab with the 4.7L V8. I loved both these trucks and I really want to get one. I'm just wondering about average how much is your insurance (i'm talking to you 18 year olds out there). And also how much do you pay a month on one of these trucks. I know if I get one with the 4.7L V8 i'm going to be paying a pretty penny but I already pay 120 dollars a month for the Liability on my Camaro (and it's just a Sports Coupe with a crap 305). Your advice and comments will be apprecicated and I really look forward to learning alot from you guys.

Hey Justin, you cant go wrong with a Dakota...good choice.

Im 18 and have a black 2000 Dakota Sport CC 5spd 3.9L. Im paying $160 a month for full coverage but im on my parents policy and were getting multiple discounts. I explored my getting my own policy (this was last spring) and they were basically telling me i would be paying "much more" than $160. Best thing for you to do is call your insurance company with information about a specific truck and ask them for a quote. Look at all options to lower the rate, such as raising the collision deductible, etc. If you can try to get on your parents policy because you will save a lot. Otherwise, expect to pay close to $300 a month, that's my guess. But if your working thats not bad. You wont regret it, Dakotas are nice. Mine is everything I ever wanted.

Any year Dakota is fine but at your age, DON'T
get a V8 or 4X4! You'll get raped by insurance.

I'm 56 and still getten raped. For some reason
my 02 4.7 4X4 sport Vin number lists it as a R/T.
I even took it to them and asked them to find the
5.9 and everything else that makes it a R/T. They
could care less. The Vin number tells all to them.

Good luck

lol i'm getting raped right now. Cmon 120 a month for a 14 year old Camaro Sport Coupe with a 175hp V8. Oh well I decided to go down to a '98 CC with a 5.2L in it. Now could somebody tell me how much power the V6 in '98 Had b/c if it has at least 195hp i'll think about it. And if Insurance is astronomical (i'm on my parents policy right now hehehe) well i'll just have to settle for a V6. Anyways keep the advice comin please.

I pay 180 a month for liability and comp on a 98 v8 dak. full coverage was 290 I am 20 and in 4 years I have got 13 speeding tickets, 2 wreckless driving, unsafe opperation, racing, careless driving, my best was a 103 in a 55 while racing, and following too closely, all in a work zone. I still have my license, just have kinda high insurance. I did get out of a few tickets, but none of the big ones. I live in N.Y. and have 10 points on my license, you lose it at 11 here, so I have been good for a few months.

To see if you could live with a six, test drive one. The peak hp # doesn't mean half as much as the torque, and you need to look at the curve (how much power everywhere), not just the peak. The one I tried felt about as peppy as a 4 banger taco, glad I passed on it. Get something you'll like and respact, you'll probably treat it better.

Good point i'll probably do that since i've already driven a V8 Dakota. Although i'd still rather have a 5.2L V8 lol. Thanks for the advice.

Justin, get what you want. You won't pay a ton more a year for V8 and 4X4, maybe $200. If you want V8 get it. I have a V6 and am very happy with it ( i also drove the 318's and 287's before buying mine), but if you are going to pay a lot of money for a new truck, get something you like, even if you do pay more. You definately want 4X4 if its going to be a work truck too or want to go offroad. I cant think of how many times 4X4 has helped me out on loose gravel or starting out on steep dirt roads. And of course, if you deal with snow you want it. In my opinion, it is pointless to get a 2wd truck. Without 4wd, a lot of the trucks versatility is taken away. Definately get 4wd. it will save you a lot of frustration. also do what kowalski says and drive the V6, you might be suprised. I would recommend 5spd if you get the V6 or the 287 V8
