 Subject: 97' has major rust prob.

I just bought a 97' Dakota 318 5 spd Posi, 95K. I just noticed yesterday that underneath of it, the bar that holds the rear end of the leaf springs is REALLY, REALLY rusted up bad, I can pull off big chunks at a time. It is like a wishbone shape. Is this a common problem? Was there a recall on this? The rest of the underside is very clean. Other than that I coundn't be happier with it, much improvemnet over my 93' 4 cyl. Thanks.

I've never heard of this problem before...
If the bracket is still sound, I'd spray some protectant on it soon before it gets worse. If it is not sound, get it fixed soon before your dif starts moving in ways it wasn't designed to.
