It'd make it quicker in acceleration, and slower in top speed. Jeez, a 3-speed 1:1 third gear and 4.10's? Ouch, not planning on much more than 50mph sustained speeds are you? Start saving for a V-8 transplant now, or a trade-in on a '92 or newer. The bolt-in V8 mount is $400ish. A good running 318 can be had for as little as $150 if you dig around a little. Get an electric fan kit $150ish. While the engine is out, have a local fella rework the tranny with a quality kit, and get a decent torque converter unless you're sure your stocker is in good shape. Mopar ignition kits at Mancini Racing are $150. For that matter, you could use a single point distributor and matching ballast resistor from an old Mopar, upgrade it later. Slap it all in there, and just don't run with slicks til you can beef up the rear a bit. Subtract the cost of those gears you're looking to swap (and labor cost to swap them?). It's really not that bad to just do the swap. Then you can run with highway gears and still have a much quicker and faster truck than what you'd have with the 6. Just something to consider.....unless you're prohibited by emissions issues.
