 Subject: 2002 SXT 4x4 with 235/75 15" tires

I bought my 2002 Dakota SXT 4x4 used back in May and had 10,970 miles on it, now I have 19,675 miles on it. The first owner bought it in June 2002. It's flame red by the way and the first owner added the foglight kit. I love the truck all but the gas mileage. I seems like I am always at the gas station anymore. Anyway here's the question. I have read reviews on this model year truck and have noticed every site I read that the SXT was new for 2002 and featured 16" tires and fender flares. Well mine is an SXT and has the 15 inch tires and no fender flares. It looks more like the baseline Sport edition than an SXT, but both doors has the Dakota SXT to prove it and they are factory stickers. But even with my insurance company when entered the VIN the truck is called an Dakota SXT. Did Dodge make some SXT's with 15 inch tires or not??? I am considering buying factory fender flares from Dodge for $245 which will make it look better in my opinion. It was manufactured in March 2002.

All SXT's came with the Graphite fender flares, bumper facia, grill and 16" alloy wheels.
Somebody did some "customizing" on your truck.

yeah, that sounds really fishy. those tires are tiny for the 4x4 as well. i would look into decoding the VIN to make sure it is, anyone can buy SXT stickers.

The dealer might have swapped out the rims and tires off another truck onto your truck, to get the 16" rims and tires onto the other truck to make a sale.
They can't do that, right, well maybe not. When I purchased my wifes new car the dealer did this on her car to make the sale. Her car came with steel rims and tires that rode like sh1t, I b1tched before I bought and they put on a set from another car with alloy rims and good tires.
I wondered if they ever ordered the correct tires for the other car, or stuck whoever purchased the other car with the bad tires and steel rims. Hmmmmmm

Thanks, I'll look into it. Although my insurance papers call it a Dodge Dakota SXT when I gave them my VIN.
