Hey guys jsut to let anyone know. I went and got a needle tip attachement for my grease gun and added grease to my stock ball joints. it took about 12-15 squirts in each one to get them full. some grease came out of the hole the needle made but its only a stop gag measure till MOOG comes out with their uppers and lowers for the 2000 dakotas then i will be replacing all four of them

Hey Rob,
The Moog ball joints for a '99 will fit on a 2000. I just finished installing them on my 2000. I would suggest getting it aligned after changing them, just to be safe. The nuts and bolts that come with the upper ball joints are a bit small for the truck, so you may want to go buy some larger ones at a nut and bolt shop. I went and got some that were the same length as the originals but were as thick as the bottom ball joint's bolts. Then I had to just slightly enlarge the holes on the new upper ball joints for them to fit. Just remember that when you are taking the old ball joints out to use a grinder on the rivets (Do Not use a torch). I hope this helps and good luck with your truck.

Rob454, That should help keep them alive, as the stockers hardly have any grease in them, fn Dodge. Only thing it doesn't get the grease down into the bottom of the joint where it's needed to flush out the worn metal particles, but it's better then nothing.

The 99 Dak ball joints will work on the 00 Dak's as I have done the same thing as Woody. Woody is also right that the bolts for the uppers are very small, toss them in the garbage and bet 3/8 or 7/16 bolts. I oversize drilled the ball joint and control arm holes to 7/16 and used,,, I think 1" long for the uppers and 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 long for the lowers. 3/8 bolts will work, but there is play between the holes and bolts. Make sure to get a new bit to drill through the holes, it makes the job much easier.

I also heard of using an air chistle to pop the heads off the rivets,,, if you have a good air compressor. Wished I had heard of this before I did mine because it took about 1-1 1/2 hours to drill out all the rivets.

I have a 99. I changed my uppers about a month ago. I used an air chisel, only takes a couple secs per rivet that way. Did both sides in an hour. Wasted time trying to get the cotter pin out of the castle nut. Just use an impact gun, the nut will shear the cotter pin right off.

I did a search on ball joints and I was reading that someone bought the 99 joints for a 2000 and the lowers didnt fit ( due to the shaft that fits in the spindle being too small. supposedly dodge enlarged the shaft for the 2000s. I dotn really know im just going by what someone wrote. I just didnt want to buy the wrong ones)so I was gonna wait it out.
I have a 4x4. If they work form a 99 4x to a 2000 ill order the 99s and the heck with waiting for MOOG.
can anyone who has done the swap of 99 ball joints on a 2000 4x4 let me know if they fit right.
thanx
Rob

1) Theoretically, if a ball joint has sufficient grease there is no metal to metal contact and thus no wear. Grease is there to lubricate, not flush out worn metal.

2) If I owned a company that made ball joints, I would be all over this like stink on dog poop.
