I have a 04 dakota CC and have had it in to the dealer 6 times in the 7 weeks that I have had it. I have had the power steering pump replaced the rear brakes replaced and now I went to use it in the snow the other day and the 4 wheel drive would not ingage. The dealer replace a control unit and that did not fix it. I got it home and it would not start the next morning, so it is at the dealer again. They gave me a S-10 to drive while they figure out what is wrong (yuk) I really like this truck but man this is frustrating. When I took it into the dealer today the guy who sold it to me said that I could trade it in on a new one if I wanted. At this point I just want to drive my truck and not deal with these problems. Sorry just venting.

Rhust, VERY sorry to hear of your problems, that DOES suck bigtime. As far as your power steering pump whine, I had a question.. Did it increase and decrease, matching the RPM? Mine is especially noticable when cold. I don't know if it completely goes away or just quiets enough not to be heard when warmed up. Does this sound familiar?

Also, I was under the impression that for a power steering pump to "whine" that it had to be working, as in turning the wheel, etc...

I've had my whine looked at by the local dealer and they claim that "it's probably the automatic transmission and that it's "normal". They claim that once the transmission heats up and the pump gets fluid oil that the noise subsides. Any thoughts? Thanks!

That's apthetic. I'd take another one, straight trade. It's a good thing it's under warranty. Just wait for what it's going to cost once the warranty is up.

If not check into your states lemon laws. Sounds like this baby qualifies.

Sounds liek it qualifies for lemon law buyback but youre gonna fight a uphill battle.
Fing dealer tried to do that to me. I took my truck in for a SES light and they came back with a 1700$ wiring harness repair quote thats after the 500$ they charged me to replace one O2 sensor. the service guys were trying to get me in a new truck. I laughed all the way home. went and figured out the problem and fixed it myself for 120$. then I went back and got my 500$ back for the work they didnt fix. Hope you get your truck fixed. Get rid of it if its giving you problems this early imagine it later when its paid off.
Rob

Take the New truck. The one you got sounds like nothing but a headache.

I took my truck to the dealer for some under the hood repairs and ended up getting a new power steering pump without even asking or knowing that i needed one. Keep your eyes out on this problem.

I am also having problems with my 04 dodge dakota. with just over 1,500 miles the power steering pump went. The dealer i took it to said it wont be ready until tuesday (brought it in last wensday before new years). Also after I stop I hear a clunk sound (assuming brakes) however the dealer could find nothing wrong. I love the truck but if its not going to be reliable when new I worry about the future. Anyone have any idea what that clunk is after I stop?
