Subject: Oil Pressure Question
IP: Logged

Message:
I've noticed a change in my oil pressure since my last oil change. I have a 2001 Dakota SLT Club Cab with a 3.9L V6. My last oil change was at 45,000 miles. Before the oil change, the needle on the gauge would fluctuate between the low end at idle and the high end as I accelerated. I understand that this is normal, and the movement of the needle was fluid and without hesitation. Since my last oil change, the needle will stay mostly in the middle range. When it does move, it moves sluggishly. Also, it is in the high position when I first start my truck in the morning. (My truck is kept outdoors 24/7.) Is it possible that this is due to colder weather and possibly heavier weight oil? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

sometimes a bad oil filter will give you low oil pressure at idle. Did you use a different filter than what you usually use on the last change? I allways used fram on my truck and the oil pressure would be 1/4 at idle and about 1/2 on the gage when I drive. I used a different filter once and the pressure was real low at idle. Switched back to fram and it was good.

I have my truck serviced at a local Dodge dealer. We're expecting some much warmer weather here for the next few days. Perhaps the warmer temperatures will have an effect on the engine performance.
