Subject: Question about electric brake controller...
IP: Logged

Message:
I took the electric brake controller off my 1995 ram 1500 and bought a 4 to seven connector package. My ram has lots of towing capabilities and the manual list towing instructions. Can this connector I bought be installed or do I need some sort of factory harness. Where would I find the factory part number if needed? Do I have a connection under the dash? Where would I find the blue wire near the real if my 2004 ram 1500 SLT?

You might want to proof read your question - it's difficult to understand what you are asking. While you can go from a 7 pin connector to a 4 pin; you can't go the other way, as you seem to be implying. Not all the functions of a 7 pin are present in a 4 pin.

Question about electric brake controller...

I have an '06 dakota with the tow package.
I installed an electric brake control and got the harness to go from the back of the control to the factory connector under the dash (near the emergency brake pedal).
I have power at the 7 pin connector on back of vehicle for everything EXCEPT the trailer brakes.
I have power from back of controller (on blue wire) to the factory connector when using manual lever on brake controller and also when stepping on the brake pedal.
Where does the blue wire on the factory connector under dash go to?
Is there another connector somewhere (under dash or under the hood) that may need to be connected?
Or should I cut the blue wire going from the brake controller to the factory connector, use a butt connector and run a blue wire to the back of the vehicle and then tap into the wire that is going to the pin on the 7 way connector for the trailer brakes in order to get power there?

Wiring schematic for my controler shows that blue wire feeding directly to the trailer connector, so you should be able to do that if the connection has been interupted in the truck. Don't have schematic of your truck to know where you might be losing signal though. Was simple plug and use with my '00 tow package. Might check if settings are up high enough on the controler first though.

Question about electric brake controller...
IP: Logged

Message:
I found my problem.
The factory wire harness that goes into the back side of the 7 pin connector had one pin (the trailer brake) that was not seated correctly and thus was not making contact. I was able to take the wire harness loose and re-seat the pin. When I plugged every thing back together, I had voltage on the trailer brake connector pin.
The problem that I could see was that the wire size for this connector was larger than the hole that it was supposed to pass through. Using a pair of needle nose pliers, I was able to push the wire with its pin in far enough to seat properly to make the final contact with its mating pin to allow current to flow.
