Doesnt mean sh*t. Its suppose to mean that they're the same quality as OEM parts but they are not. Fit and appearance is always a problem and the sheet metal is usually thinner than OEM. If we have to use aftermarket parts because an insurance co. mandates it, we do not gaurentee the fit, finish or durability of the parts. Simply put, non-OEM parts (I'm talking body parts here by the way) are crap and not worth whatever money you save.

Having sold aftermarket crash parts in the past, I can tell you the difference is anywhere from minimal to unbelievable.

Crash parts are, for all intents and purposes, "photocopies" of the original parts. The OEM parts are produced off of original tooling, while the crash parts take an OEM panel, RECREATE the tooling, and then produce "copies" off of the non-original tooling. Detail can be lost, body lines can be slightly changed, etc. CAPA certified parts are those which exhibit the best fit/finish/corrosion resistance of the aftermarket parts, but the non-CAPA certified stuff can be pretty embarassing.

Don't count out the non-cosmetic parts, though; certain pieces like bumper bars (the steel beam behind a flexible cover), brackets, and the like are often just as good as the OEM parts with a much lower cost. I'd be hard pressed to go with any cosmetic pieces, though....

Oh, one last point for any of you musclecar restorers out there: most of the reproduction sheetmetal out there (fenders, quarters, trunk lids, etc) sold by such companies as Year One, Goodmark, Paddock, etc. is manufactured by many of the same companies that crank out the crash parts by the container load. Been there, sold that too!

is that really what it means that 1 of every 1000 is test fit or was it more like the 7 year old post?
