Subject: T-Stat and Chip Question
IP: Logged

Message:
Is the 180 T-stat that most use in the 4.7 (ex: Robert Shaw 755-180) the same exact one that can be used in the 5.2, 5.9, and the v6?

Chip question: Resetting the PCM with the chip installed, will this drain the memory tables of the chip also, basically making it useless?

Thanks

Resetting the PCM will not make it useless. The basic program is ROM Read Only Memory while the section which learns is RAM Read Access Memory which can be reset.

Something along that line, correct me if I'm wrong.

Anthony, I believe your right. The chips are fixed ROM setups. They only modify the outgoing signals to set parameters, only the PCM itself is Ram that can make changes within itself, so there is nothing to delete in the chip. Same as the fact that the chip has no power to it when its uninstalled.

Ok, tomorrow, a z-tube with the Flow-Pro filter, 180 t-stat (thanks Bernd!) and Autolite 3923s gapped at .040 go on...I reset the PCM and installed the chip and flowmaster cat-back last Friday and have driven over 200 miles since.

Should I reset the PCM tomorrow after the installs (leaving the JET II installed)?

Thanks in advance...

What're the odds i'll have to drain more than just the coolant from the radiator to do a t-stat change?? I don't have the greatest facilities, and was wondering how easy this is gonna be?? I know it'll be worth it to get it doee, at any rate...

TIA,

Ok, z-tube, 180 t-stat, and 3923s are in.

As mentioned, the 9 inch Pro-Flow filter sticks out farther then I anticipated but I'm working on getting that fixed.

Money well spent! Noticable gains in performance and gotta love the sound of nailing it and keeping it at WOT! Even makes the Flowmaster catback sound better (or maybe it just a symphony of more air being sucked by the TB and exiting thru the flowmaster, whatever, it sounds so much better!)

BTW, based on feedback from you guys and the fact that I now have it in writing from JET CHIP (via email), I'm gonna reset the PCM tonight with the Jet II installed, and not worry about it's program being wiped out.

Thanks again!
