What have you done to try to fix the miss?

Have you done a tune up yet? Do you have a carb or are you throttlebody injected?

Sure he did the fuel filter ? It could be starving for gas with more load in drive. Re-check what he did.

There are a lot of things that could cause your symptoms. Best thing to do is get a "Chilton's" manual for the truck and use it to diagnose the problem, don't waste your time or money with a Hanes manual, they suck. First place to start is to see if the truck is kicking out any codes, if it is then you can narrow your search for the problem. You could have a fuel, electronics, sensor or tune-up problem. Probably going to be cheaper spending $20 for a manual to diagnose the problem then to start throwing parts at it in hopes that you pick the right part.

One question, did the problem start before your brother changed all the parts, or after he did some work on the truck. If the problem started before he worked on it then you haven't found it yet. If the problem started after he worked on it, then he might have caused the problem. Nothing to be ashamed of, I have worked on things and caused problems, Oh crap forgot to plug ??? back in and that's why it's running like sh1t.

What could cause a miss, plugs fouled or wet, plugs gapped wrong, plug wires, plug wires mixed up, burned plug wire(s), coil wire, coil, cap, rotor, electronics, loose corroded or disconnected wiring connector, faulty sensor, PCM, fuel filter, fuel pump, injectors, etc, etc,.

Since there are so many things that can cause the problem, your best bet is to get a manual and troubleshoot from there, or take it to a mechanic.

Have the governor solenoids checked on the tranny, they do go faulty, especially if the tranny hasn't been serviced properly over the years. Hope this might help.

I had an 1985 d100 that did the same thing.I tried everything and finally decided to take a hacksaw and cut the exhaust in front of the cat.The engine ran fine then.I had the dealer put a new cat on the truck and it ran fine until a few thousand miles later it plugged up again.I had it replaced with a high flow cat and never had anymore trouble.Hope this helps.

YOU MAY HAVE DISCONNECTED THE OX.SENSOR.DRILL A HOLE IN THE EXHAUST PIPE AHEAD OF WHERE THE CAT USED TO BE AND REPLACE THE SENSOR.IF IT IS FUEL INJECTED YOU MAY ALSO HAVE PLUGGED INJECTORS.I RECOMMEND CLEANING THOSE BY USEING AMOCO 93 FUEL WITH BERRYMAN GAS BLAST. GOOD LUCK.
