Subject: Amsoil Synthetic Universal Synthetic Fluid - ATF
IP: Logged

Message:

ATF+4 is the latest version. Dodge realized that their transmissions were weak and they had to reformulate.

Chrysler went from ATF+ (MS 7176B) to ATF+4 in less than ten years. Essentially they were trying to make up for shifting problems in some of their transmissions by "tweaking" the frictional properties of their fluid rather than recalling the affected units. The ATF+4 fluid does seem to have solved the problems with some of the transmissions from the mid 1990's.

Automatic Transmission Fluids are a thin dino, sythetic or blend "base" oil with anti-foam, anti-oxidation, red dye and other additives, with a very high level of dispersants and little or no detergents. The main difference between one type of ATF and another is the amount of friction modifier additive for control of servo clutch action. Type F contains no Friction Modifier, Dexron/Mercon contaion a moderate amount and Chrysler "ATF+__" contains the most.

The transmission does not get "dirty" inside like an engine, ... but it does need to keep the clutch band particles, etc., from settling and clogging valve, passages, etc. Basically, ATF is a hydraulic oil ... with the specific additive package for transmissions, plus the red dye for identification.

I know many Dodge owners that have noticeable and significant improvements switching to Amsoil Synthetic Universal ATF. They state that the transmission characteristics are better than when it was new.

WHY SYNTHETIC vs. NON-SYNTHETIC's or BLENDS ???

In General ... A 100% TRUE "Synthetic" ATF FLOWS BETTER WHEN COLD, DOES NOT GET AS HOT, AND BREAKS DOWN AT A HIGHER TEMPERATURE ... than conventional crude petroleum ATF, and thus SYNTHETIC ATF's HAVE A LONGER WORKING LIFE.

Specifically, ... Amsoil Synthetic Universal ATF

- improves fuel efficiency
- reduces transmission temperatures
- increases transmission life
- provides unsurpassed thermal stability
- and offers up to five times the service life of conventional ATFs
- maximum protection for towing and other severe-duty applications.

__________________________________________________

AMSOIL SYNTHETIC UNIVERSAL ATF resists thermal and oxidative degradation up to THREE TO FIVE TIMES LONGER than conventional transmission fluids do. It protects clutches, planetary gears, valves, pumps and seals from damaging sludge and varnish deposits. AMSOIL ATF helps prevent component overheating and ensures cooler, smoother transmission operation.

AMSOIL ATF outperforms petroleum fluids in low temperature fluidity. In fact, AMSOIL ATF offers three times the cold temperature fluidity required by current automatic transmission fluid specifications. AMSOIL ATF provides easier starting, faster warm-ups, smoother shifting and improved fuel economy.

AMSOIL ATF is formulated for EXTENDED DRAIN INTERVALS. Transmissions usually operate under severe service conditions. They are subjected to extensive idling, frequent short trips, cold temperature driving, sustained hot weather driving or trailer towing. When conventional transmission fluid is used, it should be changed every 15,000 to 30,000 miles. AMSOIL ATF should be changed at intervals up to three times longer than the recommendations of the vehicle manufacturer.

AMSOIL Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid is completely compatible with other synthetic and petroleum automatic transmission fluids. AMSOIL ATF is a universal, multifunctional fluid and greatly reduces the need for specialized fluid inventories and the possibilities of misapplication.

Twice? If you're just including this thread ... twice. If you include all the threads, I think that's the 3,145,926th time I've seen that blurb. Very nice. Just p!$$!n with ya Steve ... all in good fun. I've learned more about Amsoil from you on this board than I ever could have possibly wanted to. Thanks. Sincerely. One of these days (when the warranty runs out), I'm gonna switch over my Trans and Xfer case to Amsoil.

I'm correcting my 3/26 post. I found out today that ATF+4 WAS used to fill my transmission, not ATF+3. Seems the guy at the garage made a mistake in telling me +3 after we checked the dealers part number on his invoice. Man you've got to double check everything! I'll try Amsoil fluid when I go thru my 69' torqueflight though.

Dr. D -- I would, but it will void my warranty. Unless the packaging says it was specifically designed for ATF+4 applications, I can't use it. Daddy Daimler said so. So ... I'll just wait til the warranty runs out.

Borrowed from another forum:

Every time I read about Amsoil ATF there are always a few who Say "no way can one ATF cover all those applications!!" but yet so many people, myself included, have used Amsoil's ATF with outstanding results.

Now Schaeffers new 204s is claiming the same thing as Amsoil, "a universal ATF for many applications, including ATF + 4" but I don't hear all the usual "there is no way a single ATF can cover all those applications".

I'm not making fun of Schaeffers, they make excellent products; but I do think it's funny that if Amsoil does something it's just a MLM scam or good luck with your warranty
(but if it is anyone else it is accepted by the consumer, and A-Okay!). In my opion as a mechanic, most of the oil companies out there are just playing catch up. As Amsoil has said in the past "Been there done that".

WTF are you spewing about now? This thread was happy being dead for 4months and you had to post some cut and paste crap without reading what you have posted. Or did you?

There is no way that one product cover all the needs of all auto trans. Some trans need grabby fluid and some need really slippery. So now your going to tell me that amsiol has some sort of nano technology and can alter it self like superman in a phone booth?

Snake oil from a MLM is the shadiest business I can possibly think of.

I guess if the lie is repeated enough then sooner or later (sooner for you 2) it's beleived. Maybe that was the amsoil pukes tactic all along.... Boy, you guys are stupid.

So just tell me how it works smart guy. If one trans needs a grabby fluid (like ford transmissions) And one that needs to have slippery fluid (like mopar)get the same results with one oil.

Your responce is "It just does"? gooood ok I beleive you NOT!

Hey FrankS Piss off

I guess I have one of the few Dodge 545RFE transmissions that's compatable with Amsoil's grabby/slippery nano technology, gee am I lucky or what?

Changed to Amsoil at 80K and I have 130K on the tranny now WITHOUT any problems,,, and I tow a lot too.

I don't have to know WHY it works, I just have to know that it works.

If you want some snake oil, go to the local Dodge dealership and buy a $7.00 quart of ATF+4. $7 for a quart of non-synthetic oil,,,,,,,,,,WTF

If your satisfied with a sudo-synthetic, hydro-cracked dino cocktail than go ahead and buy AFT+4 for $7.00 a quart.

If you want a FULL synthetic ATF, BUY AMSOIL!

Seems like you insist on using Mobil 1 full synthetic motor oil from your other posts, what's up with you pouring DINO ATF in your tranny then.

It's a shame that oil manufacturers can call hydrocracked dino oil/ATF synthetic since most of the oil/ATF in the bottle is dead dinosaurs. It's especially a shame since they mislead the public into thinking that hydrocracked dino = synthetic.

Right back at ya buddy,,, "If you can't keep up, take better notes."
