Subject: 5spd And NV244
IP: Logged

Message:
I just tried to order a Dakota with a 5 spd manual transmision, 4.7ltr engine and the NV244 Full Time 4x4 Transfer Case. Dodge say's the NV244 is not available with the manual 5spd transmission. Is there a mechanical/physical reason for this or is it just a marketing issue? Can I purchase a full time transfer case after-market?

Thanks in advance for your replies.
Craig.

Go to the New Venture website (they are the supplier to Dodge for the NV244 and NV235 (not sure if this model number is correct) that is on the 5-spd. I recall that their company changed from New Venture to something else, but Google was able to track it down. (I think I searched on NV244).

I researched the same thing quite some time ago but forget the reason. There were lots of informative posts on this site about it if you have the time to search.

Good luck!

Here's the response I received from New Venture"

"The 244 by its design and nature has a large back lash in the differential gears that would show up as clunk in a manual transmission application. This would result in a large customer satisfaction issue even if it is not detrimental to the drive train. It was therefore decided not to offer it in a manual transmission application. The clunk does not show up in the automatic transmission application. Please address the aftermarket availability. Phil"
