since day one my 03 extended cab 3.9 has had this weird problem. if you get just the right rpms then the motor will wind out and not go anymore and it usually happens in 2nd gear. has anyone else had this problem or know how to remedy it. if i could just put a shift kit in or a filter and fluid change that would be great because i would have to take off the all the belltech to nonvoid my warranty so i could take it into the dealership. my truck only has 8000 miles on it but my buddys 2002 does the exact thing and when he took it in on 3 seperate occasions they told him they couldnt find anything.

I thought 03 modles has the newer 3.7? Do you have a multispeed auto mated to it?

The 03s had the 3.9 and the 04s are the ones with the 3.7.

Hey dakattack, i have an '03 quad cab with the 3.9 and i have been into the dealer 4 times! Last time was for the lemon law and i was told by Dodge that the engine does not have enough hp to operate the truck. That is why the new ones have more hp. I am in a lemon law case right now with Dodge and i hope i win! Their statement was that the truck was operating as designed from factory. Thing is it took them 4 times to tell me that this is the problem....i have even had a complete overhaul done on the tranny! It has 9000 miles on it!! Not right in my book! If anyone else is gone ot court with this let me know what happened please!!! Thanks

The 239 Magnum has enough HP-175 TQ-230

to pull your truck and tow a 4,000 lb trailer. You might have a vacume leak some here near the intake manifold. As for the tranny; I thinking you have the 42re auto. They are much more reliable than the older 42RH or 46RH transmission.

I can tell you that my biggest problem is that before my Transmission warms up, it will just stay stuck in second going down the road. I've put in some treatment and it has helped with that issue.

STS please tell me why the a DaimlerChrysler engineer TOLD ME that the truck does not have enough power to operate the tranny properly? Why does it stick in second gear at 65mph at 4500 rpms and will not shift to third gear? Why would they fix it four times and then say it is operating as normal? Why was i tols there was a fix put out for this problem and then it caused another problem and that is why they at telling people it is a problem they can fix? Doesnt sound right to me. But hey, it is only my opinion.

My 03 ,4.7 started a squealing sound and
lost power when l was towing a trailer. Is
it a vacuum leak or intake manifold.

well if your truck is squaeling, first slap ur tranny that shemale is a b!tch. now take your pig of a truck and jump it off niagra falls and jump the snake river in idaho. after that drive it into and avalanche to cool off the motor then drink brandy and slap your baby around a bit. then break the bottle on his head and tell him to go get help, but first make him drink 20 nattys... then he'll be good!
