I have a 02 4X4 with the 4.7. Love the thing but I
do have to do something about those junk brakes.
Anyway, I finally got fed up everytime I did
anything with the key. If I wanted to start the
engine to move six feet the seat belt reminder
bugged me to death. If I put the key into
accessory to listen to the radio with the doors
opened while waxing, a never ending door bell bugs
you to death. Well, I got tired of it and here is
the fix.

Locate the "Central Timing Module" and remove it
by unplugging all its connectors and its screws.
On the 02 it's located behind the kick panel on
the drivers side. On earlier years it may be
located behind the glove box. It's easy to locate.
Just listen to where the bell is comming from.
Next, open the module up and locate a little
round (black in most cases) buzzer. It's the
largest thing mounted on the circuit board. It's
soldered to the board from the under side and it
uses two connections. Next, follow any one of the
two foil traces that connect to this buzzer. Now,
use a sharp knife and cut through the trace that
feeds any one connection. Take a very small
section out of the foil. Leave the buzzer in
place. If you want that racket back for any reason
you can solder over the trace you just opened up.

Put it all back together and re-install.
Everything will be normal except NO MORE BELLS!
I did this to mine several months ago and never
missed it. Just remember, you'll still get all
your warnings on the dash but no door bell to
alert you to look. Most people that take care of
their rides look at the dash guages anyway to make
sure all is ok while driving.

Good luck...

or you can just ignore it when you start up...and to get rid of it in the "ACC" position...turn the key to the "ON" position with the doors closed...let it go through the little dingy spiel...then turn it back to the "ACC" position and it doesn't come on when you open up the doors!...I found this out by mistake and love the feature to death when working on my truck

Be careful when you let others drive your truck. They may not remember to turn your lights off.

The lights left turned on will shut off in a
minute or two anyway, ELB

As for the trick you do CJ, I'll have to try that
sometime but I remember the doorbell chiming
while the door was opened because the key left
in the Ign and on ACC or even off.

They may on the Gen IIIs, but for better or worse, the lights on my '92 Gen II will stay on.

Good luck with the door bells.

A quick question.....as for listening to the radio with the doors open, portion of the original post.

Why not just put the windows down and closing the doors? No bells or other sounds only music from the radio.

Intentional modification (damage) to the circuit board will most likely void a warrenty on newer vehiles.

Just a thought and my free 2 cents worth.
