 Subject: Tranny wants to lockup from 2nd to 1st

Hey guys I need some help. I have a 99 R/T 46RE tranny with Transgo and Mopar converter. If I driving around town and manual downshift from 2nd to 1st at about 20mph the minute it goes into 1st gear the transmission locks up and actually brings me to a stop. YYYYYYICKS!!!!!! Is this some type of pressure problem? Or is it electrical? Any help would be great, this is really becoming annoying.

What are you doing when you downshift manually to first. Are you just slowing down to stop? I guess what I'm asking is are you on the gas or off? If off, you may be shifting down at too high a speed. I know the TransGo gives you total control, but pulling down to 1st might be a bit much with whatever electronic signals the tranny is getting. Things were more forgiving in the non-computerized models.

Talk to one of the big 46RE transmission rebuilders... www.apsprecision.com or www.thefastman.com - they could give good advice.

No, Im just slowing down to a stop at low speed around 25pmh. Thanks Steve I'll ask them about the problem.

remove the valve body again and remove the valve that is put in from the transgo kit that lets you down shift to 1st at any speed.
you can down shift to 1st with it stock at 25mph
this option is for towing and to help with stopping a heavy load.
this is not a option most of us need,unless maybe you like possible blowing up you motor,rear-end or trans when it gets shifted in 1st by mistake AT 65 mph. ooopppssss.
