Subject: Squeak behind driver...
IP: Logged

Message:
I have an 2003 R/T club cab. I have a squeak just behind and to the left of the driver almost at ear-level. Does anybody else have this?

If so, what did you find it was, and how did you eradicate it?

Thanks in advance,

Sesquash

Hey, i have just starting getting a similar squeak in my 98. I am going to check the power door locks and see if maybe something is loose in the mechanism and also the area around wear the seat belt is held on, on the pillar. I will tell ya if i find anything

Hey there, Grant,

I checked where you are going to, and found nothing to cause the squeak. I also opened the quarter-window thinking it could be the weatherproof rubber seal 'chriping' against the glass. Nope!

I pulled, rattled, mucked with the seat-belt post, and still couldn't produce, or when driving, eradicate the squeak. I wonder if it is the body seam itself? The fact that I have a 2003 Dak and you have a 1998 makes me think that it is 'built' in and not so random.

Hope you find yours...and then pass on the info!

Cheers!

I can't beleive somebody posted on this , I have the same thing , it's intermitent and I have a 01 quad cab , and it's the drivers side ear level .........I think It's the seatbelt ear that sits on the pillar , I had mine lowered to the bottom ( I'm short ) and I put the adjustment up one , I don't think I've heard it again ...... But then again it's intermitent .....

I think that I found that ear-level squeak. I think it is the adjustable shoulder-strap slider.

I put it to the lowest setting, and then raised it one notch. I drove 20 miles and had no squeak!

Hey, thats unfair that you guys found it so easily. I have a reg. cab, so i dont have the adjuster on mine. Hopefully i can still find mine and get rid of that annoying noise!

I had an annoying ear-level squeek just to my right. I found the best way to stop it was to leave the wife at home!

Seriously here's something to try: when you hear the squeak give your seat belt a tug and see if that interrupts/changes the noise. Another thing you can try (I can already hear the "ooh that's too dangerous" posts being typed) is to quickly open and close the door and see what effect that has. Good luck!

Whew! That #$#%#@@^^#%% SQUEAK is gone, history!

For my 2003 R/T, it was the seat belt height adjustor. I dropped it to its lowest setting and then raised it from there, one notch.

Thank Gawd! Being at ear-level, it drove ya NUTS!

Sheesh...
