Because those semi brakes are air operated. No my discs do not lock up when wet. But, by switching over to discs and transfering more brake power to the rear has eliminated almost all the nose dive that I experienced while braking. It actually stops better in the rain because all four wheels are stopping, instead of drums hardly working at all and the fronts locking up ( no anti-lock in front!)
Gen1, thats fine if you don't agree after all you are intitled to your opinion.

By the way 747 use DISC BRAKES. And Semi Trucks will get them to thanks to bendix.

Now sit back and try to accept the fact that disc are better on EVERYTHING.

1. Is your truck lowered?
2. You can't lock your brakes when wet, not even a panic stop, or are you saying they are not prone to locking?

Is changing the rears to discs going to increase the pressure the master cylinder applies to the rear? Or will the same force only be applied to a more efficient unit?

The rear discs are nice for dry climates, Like we stated before they will freeze and be full of crud up in northern USA and here in northern canada!

No, you have to modify the valve to apply more pressure to the rear per instructions with the kit. The disc won't freeze up, you mean to tell me all cars up north have drums on the back. I think not. You have disc on the front don't you. They work the same as the front. And if they did I really don't think they would use them on Jumbo Jets or implementing them into Semi-trucks.

Not lowered.
Not prone to locking.
Can lock if you just mash the hell out of the pedal, just like anything.
But shorter stops in emergency manuevers, doesn't pull anymore during stops. I can stop harder and faster without lockup, if you follow what I mean.

I only did it because I had to replace the whole setup. But, it worked out for the best and I am extremely happy with them. Like I said to, they were cheaper than replacing the whole 11" drum setup and backing plates and related hardware.

I think what many of the nay sayers are forgetting too is that if one wants true 4 wheel ABS and/or traction control then 4 discs are a must. I would take TC over a No Slip or Sure Grip and day. I know you guys are not doing your conversions for that reason but trucks built with 4 discs are.

Wow, about time we get some useful info off this site instead of the constant flamming and people full of b/s.
The stock drums are junk. That is part of the reason that people are getting warped rotors in the front. The other reason, and this is a two-parter, is that first Dodge, or Chrysler for that matter are CHEAP and they use junk one piston calipers. The other reason is the pads are junk. I don't ever recall saying that you had to switch to rear disks becasue they were better than other drums, but I know they would work better than mine, and others junk stock drums.
I doesn't matter to me if you get rear disks or not. And you can argue till you face is blue or your fingers are numb, but if you would like better brakes for a reasonable price, you should look at getting rear disks, and improved pads for the front.

So how does this affect the parking brake?
I have a 95 Dak that I want to keep for awhile. Ive been having fun wrenching on it myself, but rear drums were just done not too long ago, and the parking brake no matter how it is adjusted slips
after not too long. I think part of the issue is
the adjuster screw not self adjusting, but man it is
seriously annoying.
