I have 3.92 on mine: QC Sport 5.9/4x4/LSD. It's quick off the line, handles long steep hills with ease, runs at 85-90 mph without breathing hard, no problems towing light loads (<2K#). I think it's the perfect gear, it gets the truck right in to it's power band for 90% of my driving. I live at 6500 ft, and often drive to >10K feet.

Last year I drove to Boston for a week. That much power and those gears were a blast. I really had a hard time not stomping on the go pedal. Driving the freeway there put the engine right at the beginning of the power band. A shorter gear would have made it less responsive for passing and hill climbing.

3.92:1

I got the 3.55:1... Manual transmission went bad at 50,000... Get the higher gears and see if it saves you $2955. (Price of new trans minus the cost of 3.92 option).

While you're buying the truck, get a few extra ball-joints, a couple of extra brake drums and rotors, if 2WD, ask for a couple of extra front hubs.

Quality is a little short again, Lee Iacoca, where are you?
