I hope I don't regret getting involved, but do you know what a supercharger is? If you've driven the truck, then you've already used it. Try this link: http://www.jacksonracing.com/pages/howorksf.html

Yeah, I know what the supercharger is. Theres a button on my dash that activates it though, so I was wondering if it can only be turned on when the truck is stopped, or if its ok to turn it on while moving?

Peppy, I hate to tell you this. You don't really have a supercharger. A real one does not have a button on the dash to operate. It's belt driven, and runs whenever the engine does.

I suspect you have one of those "Electric Superchargers", which is really a marine bilge fan. If that is true, I suggest you remove it and toss it into the trash. All it will do is add weight to your truck, and create an intake restriction which will rob you of power.

That being said, I don't think you know what a supercharger is.

Could you possibly be thinking of the overdrive button? If your truck had a supercharger and you didn't know it, you probably have pulled the truck from a phone pole by now. In comparison to a stock dakota your truck would be a rocket!

Where is the button and what does it look like?

Also superchargers are not operated with a button, they are a belt driven accesory, which, if you didn't know what one looked like it could be mistaken for an alternator with plumbing.(i guess)

After Mad Max, there was a couple of companies who tried a clutch operated SC, but it didn't work out well. I think an early Edsel even tried that, or maybe it was Studabaker. Anyway, it's too complicated, too unrelaible, and too expensive with no performance advantage.

friendly suggestion for Peppy-

next time you want to post what you think is a dumb question, just don't advertise it as such. The hecklers on this board see a subject line like that and smell blood instantly - and the feeding frenzy commences.

Didn't the supercharged Toyota MR2 have a part-time SC with a clutch that engaged it at full-throttle? Seems like I remember reading about that waaaaayyyy back in the late 80's. Sorry. I know this is kinda skewed off the main topic, but when I saw the Edsel comment, the MR2 came to mind.

Yes, the chick is Very Nice. Why don't you figure out who made the SC and do a web search. I thought all modern SC's ran all the time. Maybe the switch allows the air to bypass? Just thinkin' out loud.
