I hear all the talk about Dodge Dakotas being good, bad, and everything else. I am looking into getting a 99 extended cab v8. All I want is the bottom line. Are they good? Why? Are they bad? Why? Just the bottom line please.

Thanks,
Matt

I think every manufacturer has its highs and its lows. It jyust so happens that the people that have the problems complain a lot louder. I've had a few issues with my truck but the bottom line is i love it and its kept me happy.

i bought an '00 QC Sport 3.9 5 spd in january w/ 19,000 miles. doing research, dakota looked to be one of the most reliable mid trucks on the market. now it has 29,000 miles and i have no complaints at all. it is everything i expected.

When I bought mine (@47K) I approached it like this: I knew I had found exactly the truck that I was looking for - Gen III SLT, silver, extended cab, tow package, bed liner, auto trans, V6 (and believe it or not I'm very happy with it) running great and in great cosmetic condition. Now I asked myself this question: If something major went wrong and I had to put, say, another 2 grand into the truck would I still be ok with it. The answer was yes so I bought it. (money-wise I'd still be like 10 grand ahead of buying a new one)
Of course this logic might not work if you're financing it, I paid cash for mine, also plan on driving it out til it's dead.

Thrilled with my 92. It's a gen II, I don't know if that counts or not.

By reading this board, you can probably get a pretty good idea of the possible flaws that these trucks have. Look for them in any Dakota you want to buy.

I bought my 99 club cab with a 5.2 motor brand new. It has 102,000 miles on it with no major problems. I LOVE my truck. And that's the bottom line because ScojoDak said so!
