I have a 92, 5sp dakota with a 3.9 and 120kmi.
My seal from the transfer case to the drive shaft is bad and leaks slightly, I check the fluid level regularly and keep it up. My transfer case at certain rpm's makes a groaning and whining noise. I dunno what this is, the truck shifts fine, but the noise is scaring me.

It's getting ready to die. I'll probably make noises like that just before I die, too. Anyway, one (or more) of the bearings is getting worn and noisy, and will soon self destruct. It may last another 50K miles, or maybe only 5K; pretty hard to say. If it's your daily driver, only transportation, or back woods truck, I'de suggest getting it rebuilt before it leaves you stranded.
