ok, this is hard to explain, so bear with me.
When cruising athighway speeds, if you let of the gas just enough to keep the rpms where they are, something near the torque converter, feels and sounds like it is hitting the tunnel. You can also really feel it in the gas peddle.
Also if you are cruising but you are still under power, and you start to go down a hill, when the truck gets to the point where it is accelerating without the gas,but the peddle stays in the same position(Know what i mean by that?) It will make the noise. Which is more of a clunk than a vibration.
It basically does it when the motor is turning at a higher rpm the you have the gas peddle positioned at.
Has anyone encountered this? I think it is the torque converter, but there has never been a loss of power or anything. You can also hold the spot that will make it vibrate if you like, but it does not feel good, definatly metal to metal contact somewhere.
Any ideas or similar experiences, i have stumped two drivetrain shops, one dealer ship and countles mechanics(without tearing into the driveline itself).
oh ya , it's a 93 318, auto.

i forgot,
this all started after i put in the 3.92's.
But since then the whole rear end has been replaced. As well as the u-joints

Mine is a 5 sp., and I have a very loud metallic SLAP/KLINK! noise when doing the same things, or when clutching.
Of course, the dealer can't hear it.
It sounds as if something wants to get OUT. Or fall off.
