I'm sure Mobil 1 is a perfectly fine oil for street applicatons and low stress situations. I don't drive a race car so I really don't know whether it's good for high stress engines or not.
Having said that, Mobil 1 is the most expensive OTC oil on the market today. Yet it produces wear values that are just average. Sorry, I'm interested in protecting my engine.
In fact, if I am going to spend $5 a quart, I'll just cough up the extra dollar and buy Amsoil, which is a better product. Well, that's what i do!

$5.00 a quart? I get my 5w30 Full Syn Mobile1 at Wal-mart for $19.95 for a 5qt container. It varies from store to store. I have seen it as high as $21.00 for a 5qt container in the ritzy neighborhoods. Where I live they put it on sale quite often for $15.95 for a 5qt container. When they do that I usually buy at least 5 containers which will last me a year. That's only $3.20 per quart.

FYI --- Amsoil Synthetic Lubrication (oils, gear lubes, and ATF) sales have almost doubled in the last three years. Our manufacturing facility is increasing the base stock storage capacity from 1 million gallons to 1.6 million gallons (a 60% increase), and two new 50,000 gallon blending tanks are being installed.
Recently, two large and very well-known chain stores wanted to carry AMSOIL and were turned down. One of these wanted to place an initial stocking order in the millions of dollars.
Any claims that AMSOIL makes are fully backed. If you notice, every synthetic oil ever talked about is compared to Amsoil. Amsoil is the benchmark.
