I was wondering if anyone knows why the newer dakotas (mine 03) don't have some of the emblems on the side of the doors. Mine doesn't say anything and i noticed the other newer dakotas don't either. Just a question

Because it's cheaper to make it that way.

Seriously, although the emblems may not cost that much individually, it probably amounts to quite a savings for DC on the total number of vehicles sold.

I think my Dakota was built in July 03 and it doesn't have any markings except on the tailgate. Another thing I found odd was that it doesn't have a moulding on the top of the windshield, just on the sides. None of the other Dakotas on the lot had one either. Has anybody else noticed that?

I bought my Dak a few weeks ago and noticed the same thing. I'm glad DC didn't paint "Sport Plus" on the doors, but I really miss the "V8" badges on the fenders.

My first car in '81 was a '66 Coronet 440 (that's the model #) with a 318 and the V8 fender badges.

But do you have the top windshield moulding?

BTW, My first car was a 1970 Coronet 440, also with a 318. Damn, that car was fast.

My brand new 2003 Dakota Stampede club cab has only tailgate lettering. It has no top windshield molding. Truck was built in May 03.

Even the 2003 R/T's are anonymous except for the tailgate. You can always "retro" emblems. I saw one R/T with a 60's-style emblem on his doors. I always did think the V-8 emblems were a nice distinction. It's like, "Is that Dak worth a second look?".

I have a quad '03 with no emblems...I did replace the tailgate decal with a metal looking one that comes on the new rams. I'm thinking about getting the v8 ones too...or maybe throw the Hemi one on there.

Did a web search looking for the emblems and got a DodgeDakotas thread from a couple years ago. I like Mud's post on 10/16/01. LOL

I believe it is to make the truck look cleaner from the sides. Which is why there isn't even an option to have any side decals or emblems put on. Sad, because I thought the chrome titles and badges on the SLT looked nice.

I removed the silver "DODGE" decal letters from my '01's tailgate, and applied the puffy letters (DODGE only) from '03 Durango in the same area. Just enough.

Hey off the subject but i noticed many that wrote back had newer dakotas and i was wondering if anyone had had transmission problems with their trucks. Mine is stickign in 2nd gear when a load is placed on it and will not shift into third. It is going to be looked at by a Dodge Engineer because of my lemon law complaint but and info would be helpful.

My 03 QC SLT has no badges or lettering on the sides, no top windshield molding, and also my 99 Dakota had foam front inner fender covers that you could see when the door was open, another item my 03 does not have.

hELLO I HAVE A 2000 DAKOTA CLUB CAB SLT AND A 2003 QUAD CAB, THE 2000 HAS THE TOP WINDSHIELD MOULDING AND THE BADGES/ DECALS AND THE FOAM IN THE FENDERS.

THE 2003 HAS NO DECALS EXCEPT THE TAILGATE DODGE ON LEFT SIDE AND DAKOTA SLT ON THE RIGHT.

A QUESTON I HAVE IS HAS ANYONE NOTICED ON THE QUAD CABS THAT BEHIND THE BACK BUMPER UNDER THE TRUCK IS A PIPE LOOKING OBJECT IN RUBBER MOUNTS AT EACH END, ANY ONE KNOW WHAT IT IS? THE 2000 CLUB CAB DOES NOT HAVE THIS.

Maybe a stupid question, so forgive me, but does this "pipe-looking object" you mention point towards the rear of the truck and line up with a hole in the bumper to the left of the license plate?

The pipe you are speaking of runs parallel to the bumper right? I noticed that when I had my salvaged 2001 QC being rebuilt. That pipe is associated somehow with the rear bumper. Some sort of shock absorber i think. thats about all i know.

to 2mtech and bman42 the pipe runs parallel to the bumper, and I also thought it might be to add weight to the back but that dosent make sense to me since the truck should be heavier than my club cab.

My 2003 QC 4X4 has no badging on the side fenders what so ever. A few years ago Dodge made it a SELLING POINT to use the V6/V8/V10 Badging on the fenders to "let you know what was under the hood".
Now I guess it's a big secret???

All mine says is DODGE on one side of the tailgate and DAKOTA on the other. On the bed it says 4X4.

I have to leave it up to my loud exhaust to let everyone else know it's a V8!

Also, whatever you do, DO NOT put badges on your truck such as HEMI if you don't have a HEMI. Or I'll take your picture and put ya in my RICERS website LOL!!!

Really, I saw some local "south of the boarder" types around my neighborhood that had a Dodge Stratus and on BOTH sides of the trunk lid they plastered on the MAGNUM V8 logos. They had a 4 banger!
I got up next to them so they could hear what a MAGNUM V8 is supposed to sound like! I hate FALSE ADVERTISING! Click on my banner below to see some funny a$$ sh*t!
