Subject: Have you seen worse?
IP: Logged

Message:
I bought my Dakota last January, and I just took the truck in to the shop for the 8th time 2 weeks ago, for these problems:
- Air conditioning (2nd time)
- Brakes (violent shuttering)
- Transmission (shifting hard, found out torque converter was bad, and so was the rest of the tranny, replacing both)
- Annoying squeaking everywhere (replaced bushings, complete lube, like they said they did before)
- Paint oxidizing once again (painted entire truck this time, but used MAACO, are they any good? I have heard horrible things).

Here are the rest of the things I have brought it in for, and also the person who owned it before me:

- Truck on 3rd motor
- Steering column replaced
- Air conditioning replaced twice
- Two transfer cases
- A-arms, and other misc parts in front end
- Speed sensor
- Tranny linkage
- Rebuilt tranny
- Other brake problems

Has anybody else seen worse with their Dakota? Granted my is a 99, it only has 50k on it....

99 Blk Dakota Sport, 4x4, 5.2, auto, fully loaded

I am interested to hear from you guys

Jason

99 Must have been a bad year for black dodges. The clearcoat on my 99 is flaking off everywhere. I don't wash it anymore. It looks better when it is dirty. The dirt covers up the crappy paint job.

Mine isn't worse but I feel your pain. I have a 2002 QC 4.7auto, with lsd, 16,500 miles. It has had

-Rearend replaced for clunking and slipping
-Intermediate steering shaft replaced
-Rear wheel Speed sensor replaced
-Front-end greased many times still pops when I turn and is very noisy in front end.
-A/C drain seal cracked from factory- fixed. Water under passenger side floor.
-Brake fade, brake pedal gives under hard braking
-exhaust leaks
-stalling when going from reverse to drive
Front end is still very noisy but it doesn't pull and isn't loose. They have retightened evey bolt and greased everything that can be greased but still it is loud. The rotors have never warped but the brakes just suck. Still go to the floor under hard braking. Rearend is ok but not sure about the lsd. The stalling stopped after 14 months on its own. The dealer is very patient and tries to fix it, but Dakotas in general have had problems from day one and they don't fix them on the new ones. I have driven new and used Dakota's and they all have the same basic problems with the front end. I am going to trade it because of the problems before warranty runs out. Good luck.

I love my truck too, but these problems are ridiculous, and they refuse to fix them. Same problems have been happening for years and they dont do anything about it.

My front end popping was a loose bolt in the bell housing, might want to check that out.

Dodges have more problems than anybody else, but I do love my Dakota, just wish it wasnt a pile of crap

How do you know that Dodges have more problems than anyone else? What is your proof of this claim? Any numbers to back it up? Just wondering if this is all just venting.

I Love my 01 4.7 4x4 auto cc Dak to death, except for the brakes,I have NO complaints. Beautiful truck and it rides like a dream. Maybe I'm just lucky or what?
Running on BFG A/T and using Mobil 1 5-30
I plan on dumping my K&N drop in real soon and going back to the paper filter. IMHO the K&N filter does a bad job of filtering. I also think the high throttle reponse with K&N is all hype.
I did my own test and I could not tell the diff.

Just an old sailor's 2 cents
Good Luck to all who post here, with your Daks.

According to Consumer Affairs and Better Business Dodges do have more problems than Ford and Chevy.

Love my dodge, but I know of 4 people with them with nothing but horrific problems, most of them shared...

I have a 2000 4.7 2wd and have not had any of theses problems. Jak Dak:The paint should be warranty for like 7 years. Maybe five but still. They should be fxing it under warrantee.
