I dont know about a v8 but I did this to my v6 and it didnt seem to make much of a difference, as a matter of fact it gave me a little bit more power. But I would wait for someone that has done this on a v8.

Usually if you do that you have to look at the o2 sensors. Some setups have a o2 after the cat and if you remove the cat it will throw the pcm a code and won't run right. That's why you buy a cat box to wire into the rear o2 sensor to fool the pcm. And actually sometimes a catbox is not needed. Most gut the cat and wire tie the o2 sensor to the frame rail and it works perfectly fine. Others need catboxes to fool the pcm. Try the free option first.

Or on some applications there are no downstream applications so you don't even need it. I've got dual catboxes on my r/t and they work fine.

thanks alot, but what is a catbox? and where would i find one if i needed it. could i try leaving the O2 sensor in the cat without adverse affects? i need to still be able to get a sticker for it. to clear codes on the pcm just disconnect the battery for 10 seconds like most other cars? thanks again for the help

What's your milage ? You could be covered by federal emissions warranty, I think its 75,000 or 80,000 miles. No power gain but free.

If in U.S., you're covered. If you type "federal emissions warranty" into your computer's search engine all kinds of info should pop up. Is the dealer saying your cat hasn't failed ? If you are sure its bad, tell the dealer you know about the warranty and want it replaced for free. You could complain to Better Business Bureau and others if they won't
