 Subject: Subwwofer behind the seat in a QC!!!

Has anyone else here been able to install a descent sized subwoofer behind the rear seat of a Quad Cab?
It sure as hell wasn't easy.
I'd be curious to see what other people did. Here is my "operation" I had to do to make mine fit.
The subwoofer is behind the right rear seat. I had to cut out a section of insulation to move it as far towards the rear as possible. I also had to re drill holes in the seat mounting brackets to move the seat forward 1 1/2 inch. I also had to weld extensions on the upper seat mounts.
I had to cram this sucker in there. The problem is getting descent performance out of a small box and speaker. This is a Rockford Fozgate 10 inch HE series. Look at the size of the outer foam! The speaker moves like 2 inches to out perform most 12 inch speakers. The box is 1 cubic foot and ported. This was the smallest configuration for this speaker.
You can not tell there is a speaker behind the seat. I previously had the speaker in a smaller box on the rear floor ever since I bought this truck about 5 months ago. My 8 year old had the privelidge of putting her feet on the damn box instead of the floor. I think she likes the speaker being gone from there.

You could have just bought the MTX thunderform thats made for the Quad Cab I put a 10" sub behind the drivers side rear seat and there is not mods to be done. you just can not fold the seat up anymore

Good work G,
I used a similar method for my amp, I countersunk it into the liner.
I had the split bench instead of the buckets, I took out the center seat and built a box to replace it. I also replaced my seats with racing buckets so there was no need to replicate OEM shape. What I am curriouse of is; does your seat still fold up? that was a must for me and mine barely does with my amp behind the drivers side rear seat.

Well my seat DID fold up until I mounted that 6 inch behomouth of a cooling fan onto my 600 WATT amp.
That f**ker puts out some ~~~HEAT~~~
But without the fan on the amp the seat on the left still folds up.
I really don't need the seats to fold up. I just need to have access behind them to adjust or repair when needed without unbolting the seats.
As for the MTX SUBWOOFER vs. the one I have now. I'd have to look into the MTX you have to see what the true specs are. But I do have a MTX subwoofer that was in my woman's car. She was using this box with the MTX. I installed it behind my seat to test the box and of course just when I get the speaker almost as loud as I desire, it ***POPS*** from over driving the sucker with my monster amp!
So, I wanted to use my Fozgate HE series that would certainly out perform a MTX 12 inch yet alone a MTX 10 inch. The speaker barely fits into this box because it has a longer throw by FAR over the MTX. So I had to modify the seat to get it to fit.
Another thing of interest. Whenever I test speaker boxes, I've been using OLD PINK FLOYD CD's. Some songs with subsonic notes are the intro to "Speak to me" from Dark Side OF The Moon. That "HEARTBEAT" is so low that you have to have something with very low frequency capabilities to even hear it. Back in 1973 when they produced that album you could only hear the "HEARTBEAT" with good high end headphones or a above average system!
The intro to the song "Welcome to the machine" from Wish You Were Here has a five minute low bass note! That will test and or KILL any weak amp or speaker.
Those songs and many others from Pink Floys are better for testing speakers then any bass CD I've ever used. And I'm especially not one who likes to listen to BASS CD's of ripped and chopped up samples. It's almost as bad as listening to most rap music!
