Pre-Magnum 318's were 170 HP, same as a Magnum V-6.

I know they're only 170 hp thats why I'm not going with a 318 and most likely it wont even be an LA engine. I live in minnesota we dont have smog tests. So if anyone else has some valuable input I would appreciate it. thanks for the input so far

Yup, the pre-mag 318, 340 and 360 are all designated "LA" motors, except for the earlier and larger poly 318. Is that your motor of choice since you said "most likely it won't be an LA engine" ?

well with either one you will have to make custom brackets for the alt, a/c, power steering, and motor mounts.

intense I believe schumacher has power steering adapters. not sure though. But then again from all I've seen and read you seem to be pretty good at fab'in stuff maybe you could start selling those brackets cuz I might be intested in them when I do my swap

I'm glad to see that it wont be stock. What are you doing for headers and a carb? just wondering on your combinations. Also for the alternator cant you use an older one being that your not running all of the newer acsesories, and your using the 400's wiring harness. just my two cents

the thing is i am not using the 400 wiring harness... i am gonna keep my stock computer and as much of the stock harness as neccessary to keep as many of my gauges lit. Other words, i am transplanting my oil pressure sending unit, starter, coolant temp sensor, alternator, fuel pump (gonna put in a regulator and return line), and i think that might be it... only one i am gonna loose is the tachometer unless i can figure out a way... doubt it considering its run off the crank trigger and cam sensor.

for headers, i am just gonna buy some cheap "B" body summit headers and cut and paste until it fits.

Carb, i am not sure yet... motor came with a Holley 650 but that is too small. Probably go with an edie or holley 770-800.

the tachometer on older engines and aftermarket tachs is run off of the coil. So you could most likely rig up a way for it to work.

thats what I'm saying is you could find the wires coming off the tach trace them out and see if it will work by hooking them to a tach. just my 2 cents
