I beat a Honda civic Vtec R a few days ago. He had the stock spoiler, and a few stickers. Good thing there weren't more stickers, and a bigger wing, then I would have lost. 8*)

I thought they were fast. He reved, from a light, safe, wide, isolated road in Pasadena. (HOuston suburb).

By the time I was thru second, I looked over, then my rear view, he was at least 6 lengths behind me. So I eased way off and put it in third. He keeps coming up, so when he's almost even with me, and accelerating faster than me (I had eased off and shifted), I leave it in third from about 3000 r's, and pulled on him again a few lengths.

Needless to say, he was pissed, and after I eased back to to 55 in a 45, he got in front of me and slammed on his brakes. Which will stop quicker, his civic, or my dak QC, with original brakes and 44K? Good thing I wasn't too close, damn near rear ended him! What an idiot. Take your lumps, dude.

I only post this b/c, I really thought those vtec R v6's in a light car WHERE fast. I was suprised I beat him!

01 QC 4.7 5spd(not the fake one, the manual) HO cams, HO intake, Ported 68mm TB, HOmebrew CAI with K&N filter, NO belt clutch/fan, tire and handling package, ......etc. NOthing that really adds anything, like 3923's, 180t-stat, etc.

Just some congrats on the kill!

I find it funny how many cars look at a Dakota and want to race it, it amazes me, I had less people try to race me when I had my 98 R/T Neon, my 89 Formula 350, and my 66 Stang.

Anyway, if you remember, mine is a 2003 4x4 Quad Cab Sport Plus 4.7 V8 and 5spd manual with 3.55s and LSD. I try not to race it much, but when some idiot is trying to show off, they sometimes need reminded exactly what they are driving, and no it can't even beat a 4x4 pickup with 4-doors LOL! Another thing that is great is when someone in a Fast and Furious wanna be car who just got a 5spd because he/she thinks they are cool now, haven't a clue how to shift! I can't remember how many times I look over and through first they are right there, but once it is time to shift, the car almost stops so they can find second! LOL!

Anyway, have you decided on the exhaust thing yet? I know we talked performance gains and they aren't any and a lot of times possible losses, but I am in need of something really strong. I have been leaning toward a Ravin system, stopped in last Friday and they had a dual system on a reg cab 4x2 dakota with a 4.7 they use as their parts truck. Sounded very very nice!

Only mods I plan on really doing are getting a nice toned exhaust, adding the HO cams, and I have already put in a K&N drop in, basically just for reusability of the filter and the smoother acceleration it provides. After looking at the Dyno sheet on part 57-1516 for their FIPK, the numbers overlap until 3200-ish thorgh 4800-ish, final gains showing about 7hp, not worth the $$$ tag on that thing.

Lovin' the truck by far!

Well, got the file to finally play here at work. Sounds really good!

The price on those systems is a little high for my taste though! I am sure it is worth every penny though.

The Ravin system is, in my area anyway, $213 for the system and I want some nice stainless 18 or 24 inch tips and those run $50 a piece from Midas, can possibly find tips cheaper elsewhere, haven't really looked yet. So basically for a dual out the back setup, it would come to about $313-ish before taxes. Their single setup runs like $150.

TexasTodd,

Slamming on the breaks after being beat seems to be a common occurance here in Houston. I was going to work the other day and had it happen. It was a full size Chevy doing it to me though.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

An R/T vs. a 4.7 5spd......ALL LIFE SAVINGS ARE ON THE 4.7!

Autos and Racing should not be in the same sentence! Unless you are using it in the following sentence, "I like to lose when racing, that is why I have an Automatic" yeah, that about sums it up.

At least Chrysler didn't screw up the Ram SRT-10 and went with a 6spd manual. When they created the Automatic years ago, they should have scrapped it right away, automatics allow people who have no idea how to drive to drive, all you do is pull the little handle to drive, and press go. whoo hoo, and at the same time lose so much POWER, get something to place the power at the rear wheels where it was intended to go to as fast as possible, get a manual! Oh wait, let me guess, you think it may be easier for your commute to work so you can drink coffee and talk on cell phones.....sorry! Buy a neon and get yourself some good gas mileage too.

Trust me, I had an R/T, it was a great truck, but having a 4spd Auto in that thing is what caused me to get rid of it....searching for gears up hills and around bends, no thanks, enough of that. The 360 engine is great for what it was intended for...a 4x4.

I'll tell you. I can put my 4 cyl up against my friends vehicles and it does pretty good. But only because it's a manual. I wouldn't call it burning, but I can beat my friends auto,1988 V6 camarro, and my best friends Vortech V6 S10. His is a manual though, I think he could take me, but he still doesn't know how to drive. I don't think he's taking it past 4 thousand RPM.

I was just cruizing through the site to see what you guys are doing to your vehicles and, I have to say waxin' a rice burner is some fun. We have a 1/2 ton 4X, and a Durango 4X, both 5.9 so we are not eating anything too hi perf. However, believe it or not, I have had some of these fast and the furious wanna be's try their luck with my CBR 900R. Appearently, they thought "Rice Rocket" meant their cars. It's a lot of fun to let them pull you a little when you roll on, then feather the clutch and rocket past with the front end off the ground.
I am in the process of re-educating my son who believes he wants one of these rice bowls and actually thinks they are fast!?! Kids these days.He doesn't think much of the 70 440 Cuda I used to own, but show him a VTEC and, oh well...

Street racing in southern California has gotten dangerous and is rife with stupidity. A lot of these kids race three or four cars side by side and as someone said don't know how to shift a manual trans. Accidents have become so prevelent the police use under cover officers and arrest people (even spectators) and tow cars. Geeze, when I was a teen, they told you to go home. Some would check out your car if it interested them. Accidents were very rare, and no one would get in front of you and slam on the brakes. The times, they are a changin'

Mr. hey,

Yea, I think my truck is fast, for a heavy assed QC, but not all THAT fast. I thought he had a v6 emblem, even if he did, it was probably a I4.

Mr. SyMrT,

Maybe I'll see you around Pasa-getdown-dena sometime, I'd like to see your truck. And, NO, I don't want to race your modded R/T, with my heavy, cab high leer top, trailer towing, lightly modded Quad Cab!

PS, my latest kill was this guy going N on I45, before we both went west on the beltway, at the S loop. It was a Jaguar sedan, pretty new, he and his lady smartly dressed. He was being obnoxious with how he drove. So when he pulled to pass me, I inched on him from about 55-90MPH, putting him from my grill to tailgate. He gained a few inches when I went from 3rd to 4th. And yes, he was racing, he was pissed he couldn't get by my QC with the shell on the back!

SyMrT,

I drive a White over silver, QC, with a color matched cab high shell. It has the DC fender flares-silver, with the 16in wheels. I'm not calling you out, just a friendly check it out if you see me.

nice to hear someone winning in a Dakota :-( It certainly wasn't me this weekend.

My 92 2wd with the 318, short cab 8' bed, put the hurt on a vr6 Volkswagen GTI a few months ago.(as well as MANY local bling-bling cars with the fart tailpipes) Fast truck!!! I just found the same guy while in my 99 4x4 extended cab with the 318 and we had a 40 kick and I held my own for a short bit and then he blew past me. I was so sad. I miss my old truck at times!

APS tranny is coming soon, that should help a little. What I really need is a 440 under there, hehe. How much worse could my mileage get afterall, haha.

Oh, almost forgot the bright side! Later that day in the rain I punched it at 30 and took off sideways FAST. 3.55 posi. The idiot that was tailgating me kept his distance when I slowed back down, hehe.

Wal
