Message:
im looking for good 5spd swap info as however its for an A-body not a truck
the idea is simple put a 5spd that i can get from a wrecker into an A-body with a 273 v8

whats the ideal tranny to try and find...
what years can 5spd's be pulled from
anything to keep an eye out for?
anything to stay far away from?

i would asume that the 2.2 5spds would be a tad weak for the job? and even still would require a 3.9 bell house
i have no problems cutting into the floor of my car to make it fit its a question of where to start looking year wise and what years will find me the best gear ratios

Ideally you'd want to get it from another A-body, I believe F-body (70's Aspen/Volare) is very similar or might be the same. These however would be 4 speeds, if you must have 5 speed, it's time to drop some cash at www.keislerauto.com.

Because the switch to 5 speeds ocurred at the same time as mopar switched to front wheel drive cars - a very different animal. You could find a truck 5 speed that will bolt to the bell house but clutch linkage would probably be a nightmare and shifter location would probably not be right. If the easy swap you are looking for was out there, I don't think Keisler would have developed their tranny.
