 Subject: Dakota Drive Lines are JUNK

Last winter, the bearings in the transfer case went and took out the front drive shaft, too. $800.00 repair bill.
Today, the rear pinion shaft bearings blew. $500.00 repair bill.
The owner of the repair shop said that when he ordered the bearings, the supply house said that they have sold a lot of pinion shaft bearings for Dakotas.
What the f**k?????
The truck is a 2001 QC, 4.7, 5-speed with 57,000 miles. I am a stickler on maintainence, had all the differential fluids changed with the fluids Dodge recommends when the manual called for it, and this piece of crap drive line still failed! The next truck is going to be either a Toyota or a FORD. Enough is enough!

either failure? Also, full or part time 4x4? My QC only has 4,000 on it but perodically there is a grinding sound from up front. I think it is some torque converter thing.

yes dakotas are junk. Dodge is not thinking when building these pieces of junk. I try and try to keep my 2000 in good shape but everytime i get something fixed it is the same a week later. Selling er and buying a Gm. Its sad cause the dakota is the perfect truck for me IF it worked properly.

Traded my Dak in on a Tundra last July, I've had nothing but happy, blissful, quiet, smooth and comfortable miles since then. I truly am a happy man.
