Subject: Borla vs. Gibson...which is quieter?

Message:
If anyone here has heard the Borla Catback or Borla Hemi muffler cut-in side by side with the Gibson Swept Side, can you tell me which is quieter?

Thanks,

Craig

I would think Gibson, since most their products are generally quieter, but check out their websites, i think there are some wav files and info on decibals out the pipe!! Are you looking for interior sound or exterior sound?

Gibson. Period.

The single "side-swept" model is BARELY louder than stock (until you MASH the pedal - then it comes alive!).

The Borla has a "thoatier" sound, but it also is a more that a little bit noisier than the Gibson.

I've heard both in person... I'm gonna go with the Gibson. It provides plenty of flow, but doesn't draw undue attention ('til ya want it to).

Of course, you can always go with Flowmaster.... and break a window or two - loudest I've ever heard!

I just installed a borla part no. 40665 Hemi Style From auto parts wharehouse ,2.5 in & out.Center in offset out(reverseable) almost a direct replacement for my 4.7 2001 quad cab( a bit smaller). Did have to buy a small extension piece 2.5 male to female at autozone $4.99 and 2.5 clamp 1.09.Installed it myself in 1 hour.Nephew has flowmasters and Broeheem is correct it`s loud.,I cannot speak for gibson, never had one.But My borla is not that much louder than stock ,just deeper sound, and it has a good sound when you get on it. if you go to their web site they will actually play the sound for you on your computer.I actually would like my borla to be a tad louder, was thinking of removing the tail pipe and dumping it under the truck. but I think i`ll just leave it, it`s only the family truckster.I dont think you can go wrong what ever you decide their boyh fine products, JJ

I haven't heard the Borla, but I do have the Gibson single side swept and an Airaid. Louder than stock, but definitely not obnoxious. It does tend to amplify the 4.7's natural loud spot at around 2100 rpm, but I think any cat-back would. If you want, I have an interior recording of mine. It's a huge file (3.2 megs, due to me not knowing how to work the sound recorder), but it includes startup, part throttle acceleration to about 50mph, two full throttle 0-80 runs, and a couple of 50-75 passes. Also due to my incompetence the wave balance volume will have to be turned all the way up for you to hear it reasonably well. But there are a couple of other background noises as well (turn signal and tire hum) so you can guage for yourself how loud it is. If you want it, let me know and I'll e-mail it to you. Because of the file size I'll have to use my other e-mail account (yahoo won't let me e-mail large files), but that's no problem.

Gibson is the quietest in the cab mostly because they use the thickest piping and it makes most of the noise at the rear of the truck. If you want a awsome sound from the exhaust but a close to stock sound from in the cab go with gibson.
