does anyone know if its possible to disconnect the a/c during the winter for better gas milage?can you use a different belt and just not include the a/c unit? i know on my old bronco 2 we just eliminated the belt for that and never used it. we live in washington so you don't need it but about 2 months a year. thanks for any info.

Unless you don't want to use the ac at all, I wouldn't suggest disconnecting it for 2 reasons.

1) When you turn your defroster on, you are turning on the AC.

2) The refrigerant in your AC is mixed with an oil. This oil keeps the seals lubricated. The seals keep your refrigerant in. If you do not run your AC, the seals do not stay lubricated, they dry up, your refrigerant escapes and you are stuck paying for AC service in the summer. It's cheaper to run the AC once a month and lube the seals.
