Subject: stock fog light question
IP: Logged

Message:
my 2000 SLT didnt come with factory fog lights so I bought the lower facia w/ fogs and plugged them into the wiring harness which already has plugs for the fogs. I also added the fog lamp relay and fuse in the fuse block under the hood. However I'm still not getting any light out of the fogs. I have yet to stick a volt meter on it to check voltage, but will do that shortly. If anyone has any ideas why they wont work please let me know. Thanks

Did you turn on the switch in the dash? I am not familiar with the interior of the 2000's but my "97 has a seperate switch in the dash that has to be turned on and the parking lites or driving lites also need to be on for the fogs to work.

The 2K Dakotas with fog lights had a different
light switch, you had to pull the knob out to turn on the fogs.

I know the switch was different with factory fog equipped dakotas but from what I understand if you buy the fog lights seperately, they turn on as soon as you switch on the fog and/or headlights.

You may have to change the switch to the kind that pulls out since your using the original wiring harness plug in for the lights. Seems logical to me. Just a thought.

Check your relay socket and fuse socket. I was looking at my fuse block and noticed that all spare slots do not have both connections, the slots are there but not the metal piece that will complete the circuit is not.

well my fuse block checked out ok. I have all the necessary connectors. I guess I'll have to replace my switch and see what happens.
