i have a 318, 5-speed, 4x4...it gets about 15.5 mpg at best.

I have a 5.2 5spd 4x4 ext cab. I've never checked my mileage around town, but on the highway, my lowest was about 15.5 (this was against the wind on a mountain pass, mostly climbing) and I got as good as just over 19. As far as towing goes, it does fine with 2 dirt bikes in the back. That's the heaviest hauling I do.

Ok, I expect to be pulling a 2.5 ton camper and I'm going to be pulling my 22FT boat to the lake. My auto just isn't up to it because it stays stuck in 2nd and shift hard. Its a 46RH.

Well, I got a 3.9L (239cid) V6 5 in the floor and it does fairly well pulling a 2 ton boat. Fuel econ. would be better than a slush box because it won't be shifting all the time your driving in town.

I do off-roading quite a bit. So I think a manuel would be much better for me and also lower gear ratios help offroad and pulling a load.

Ever try Lucas Treatment? My dakota isnt a 4x4 but it does have the 318. With 75,000 miles on the OD I tried some of this stuff and believe it or not I averaged 23-24mpg on the turnpike doing the speed limit which is 75mph. Its the best I have ever had in that truck.....of course Im usually doing about 85-90 on the turnpike. But the stuff does work well!

Have a '95, 318, 5 sp. 4X4, RC/LB, 3.92 rear. Have never been able to obtain 15 mpg under any conditions; always much lower regardless of terrain. It does tow well; no problems in that area.

Mine gets around 17 at around 75 degress. If the outside Temp scores to 90 or then it gets thursty and sips 15 MPG on hwy driven..

I happen to use Lucas on a constent basis. I hate the fact that you have to wait all F-ing day just to pour in 1/2 the bottle! I use about a bottle every 2 months. I might need to two at a time instid of just one.
Also I found a link in the hose that leads out from the Powerstereing conpartment. Anyone with this problem. It dosn't leak that bad but but you can see a small pudel .

I have a 99 CC 4x4 with 318 5 speed (w/KN FIPK and Flowmaster Force II)
I get around 15.5 in town and bit more on the highway. Have to run super though and that is draining the wallet right now.

If that was ture Fastdak, Lucas would post that on there label. And why shouldn't they?? I've been using the stuff for over a year and my V6 always gets 17 MPG on the hwy.

I've noticed a 15% increace in hwy driving using Plus.
Now that it's coold off down here. I'm actruely avg. about 16.5 MPH.

My, 239 V6 gets about 18. It's a 2x4,5speed and with 3.72:1 gears.

I got a 4.7 quad cab (5 speed auto) and if I drive it just under 65 on the HWY; about 19 is what the meter reads out.
