Ok, so I was leaving work one day when i started my truck and it tried to idle, and shut off. If I gave it some gas, it would stay on, but once it tried to idle....off.
So I removed the PCV valve hose (as a friend of mine suggested) and it ran fine. Like the day I got it. So I later replaced the PCV Valve itself, but to no avail. Same thing happened.
Now I know that it runs fine with the vavle hose disconnected, but I'm not sure how bad that is for my truck. So I think it has to be the breather filter. But I'm not sure.
Does anyone know what it could be, if it isn't the breather filter....and if it is, what kind of breather filter it is.

Check the throttle body.
Sounds like the exact same thing happened on my 97 about two years ago. Just wouldn't keep an idle.
I ended up taking it to the shop and they cleaned it out. I wasn't very mechanically inclined at the time but aparently its a very easy procedure to do yourself.

Try getting a can of carb cleaner and cleaning out the hose . I had a Toyota that had a build up of gunk in the hose . Also spray the connection end at the carb. Hope this helps .
