Yes, I have a 97 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JX v-6. I was coming off of the highway when my serpentine and power steering belts broke. I lost steering then brakes and finally the car stalled about 1 min later. I put new belts on and it would not start, so I bought a new starter and still nothing. Then I took the belts back off to check the timing belt and it did not brake but it would only do a half turn in either direction I pulled and it would stop (would not do a full turn). I was wondering if someone could tell me what happened? Could it of jumped time or is my motor gone? How can I check it my self without paying thousands of dollars to have a dealer look at it? I am pretty new at this car fixing stuff but I'm trying. Any impute would help. Thank you.

I would call a shop that has worked on Dodges in the past, some engines have a bad habit of bending valves when the timing belt breaks. The clearance between the piston top and valves can be so close that if a valve is left open and stationary the piston can come in contact with the valves on it's upward stroke. Ford Escorts (older ones) had a problem like this. If this is the case you are looking at possibly a complete valve job. You still can do most of the work yourself and save money but without the right tools the valves have to be done buy a pro. A good shad-tree mechanic can do the work, some of them have all the tools needed. In my case I cannot grind valves and seats but I can lap-in and install the valves. I hope that you are lucky and only need minor valve work, some of the jobs I’ve been involved with only needed a couple valves replaced and seated.
