Gibson, JBA, MBRP, etc. You can find vendors that sell Magnaflow cat backs for around $100 less in stainless than the others. Why is that? Are they using a thinner guage steel or what?

No, they just have a more agressive pricing scheme.

I had the Magnaflow 14256 stainless muffler on my V6 Dak for awhile, until I took it off because a V6 sounds absolutely dreadful with a louder than stock muffler. But, the muffler itself was of the highest quality, almost a museum piece as far as mufflers go. Sold it to a guy in Baton Rouge, who put it on a 4.7, and he raved about it.
