Subject: metal work idea. new dak body mount.

Message:
whats up guys. I have become tired of trying to get larger tires on my 2wd dak. I dont have 6grand to spend on a solid axel swap. so I have an idea. I am about to clear up the rear of the front fender problem my dak has with 33 in tires. My 31s now are fine but with 5in of lift, I want to run 33x10.50. I am going to clear away enough of the rear area of the front fender to clear them. Only obstacle is the body mount there in that area. I thought to get 1/4in plate steel and make a new mount about 6in behind the exhisting one. Same height and all just back enough to get that needed clearence to run 33x10.50. Then Ill grind/cut off the old mount.

What do you think? I have a buddy whos family owns a welding shop locally. I think for less than $75 bucks they should be able to do this. Comments please.

Ok guys I know its kinda honky, but do you think itll work? I know some one in town who has a 4x4 dak with 4.10 and a rear locker. He cut the rear of the front fender enough to get a 31x12.50 swamper with no lift. So I figured Id try it too. Not as severe as he did, but enuf to get a 33 on. Comments please...

So basically you just want to take a saw to the sheet metal? Sounds like it'll end up looking like a pre-runner. Cool. Take pictures. Just cut slow so that you don't cut something you didn't mean too.

No guys... lol, Im talking about the metal just behind the front tires. Right at the firewall/cab. I have plenty of clearence everywhere except there, just in front of the doors. I want to cut that metal out and get some larger tires in there. Later guys.... Any hints to not screw up! Thanks

well you wont have much room to cut because there are mounting bolts down there and if you cut it loose you could really mess up your body... and have loose pieces of fender.

Well, Im gonna get to that. But after I get the mount relocated. Im only going to remove about 2-3 inches of metal tho. Not hack it to hell. Do you know this? I body seems to be held up my 6 of these mounts, the cab that is. They look to be only attached to the floor and another layer of metal. Is that how your is too? Later
