Does anyone know about a squeek comming from the control arm area on the pass. side. I had the upper control arm bushhings replaced as well as the ball joints, and that fixed the problem for about a month but now it is back as strong as ever. It sounds like it may be comming from one new upper bushing and may be one of the lower ones as well. It squeeks if I step out of the truck, hit a light bump, or shake the truck at all. Do people have as many problems with the lower bushings as they do with the upper ones? Thanks everyone.

I would say it is your sway bar. Have someone bounce the truck while your under it and see where it is coming from. Do a search for sway bar squeak on here and you should come up with something.

The sound isn't coming from the sway bar. It is definatly further in than that. I't sounds like it is coming from the bushings or somewhere very near. I put a mechanics stethoscope up to it but with the way the metal carries the sound it is still hard to pinpoint. The squeek is Really loud! Anyone one else have any ideas. Thanks.

Dakotas are notorious for squeaky sway bar bushings. When I bought my new 2001 quad cab the bushings started sqeaking about 4 months later. I brought it to the dealer and they changed them for free. Apparently they were getting a lot of complaints and Dodge released a service bulletin. After they installed the new bushings, the sqeak came back about 3 months later. I never brought it back. Maybe some after market polyurethane bushings would do the trick to quiet it down.

Same as Dude, exactly the same.
I agree with his solution as well. At least for the 2001.

Hey guys, My dak is a '98. I took your advice and lubed up the sway bar bushings really well but it didn't do anything. I think the squeek may be coming from the lower control arm bushings. Does anyone know if replacing them is a job I can do myself. It looks like if I just lift the truck up and then put another jack on the lower arm I can take the pressre off the bushings and just unbolt the old ones and put the new ones one. I checked AllData but they don't tell me anything. Does anyone know about replacing the lower bushings? Thanks for any input.
