Message: Does anyone know of a Dodge dealer that won't try to soak me for these badges? They are the "chrome" D-A-K-O-T-A and "SLT" badges from the doors of a 2001.
My local dealer says $90.00 for ONE side. Can you guess what I said in return?
I'd like to buy just one side, for application on my tailgate.
I had one offer from a DogdeDakotas.com user (Jeremy Armstrong) to buy one side from him. He instantly cashed my check, then proceeded to do nothing. WEEKS went by, and I finally had to insist that he make good on our deal. He offered to refund the $$, claiming that he didn't have the time to remove them from his truck, but I wanted the product for which I'd long since paid for, and told him so. I received the package today--- A refund and an excuse "I broke the badge removing it". I was buying ONE SIDE, so unless he was LYING, he must be a real genius, breaking BOTH sides.
Beware of who you do business with, especially anyone who happens to be a regular seller on eBay.... many of them seem to think that there'll be no consequences to their unethical actions.

Message: I removed the same thing from my truck. Someone would have to be very good to get them off without ruining them. Just bending them will deface them to an unusable condition.

Message: Uhhh... why don't you try looking in a junkyard or something?
You probably can get those badges for next to nothing in a "U-Pull-It" type junk yard.
I would at least give it a look see.

Message: The price he quoted you is pretty close, and my bodyshop says it is almost impossible to remove the SLT badge without wrecking it. Had some idiot scratch his name in the door of my 97. It cost more to replace Dakota SLT then it did to repair the paint.

Message: You're going to have to buy them new. I took them off my Dakota and they were wasted when I was through. I can't imagine that they would come off in a reusable condition.

Message: Hi, just passing through but I was wondering if the 'SLT' badge removal problem extended to the 'V6' badges too? If not would anyone have any to sell? Alas I drive a compact pick-up made by a rival company (4.3L V6) but really wouldn't mind having a 'V6' to put on my truck.

Message: They would look stupid on your truck because under the V6 it says Magnum not Vortec.

Message: Sorry, I didn't post the full idea but on some of the S-Series boards were I asked around I did mention removing the Magnum so that it said 'Xtreme V6' alone. Besides, I never looked at one close enough to see if they were one badge or two separate ones. So do you have any?

Message: Nope. I am badgeless. The magnum and V6 are on the same decal so I don't see it working out very well.

Message: Thanks and that's cool though for anyone else who may have them. I guessed that I might have to put in a little work on them. It's just something to play around with anyway.

Message: Ift4ded - You can buy the V6 badges for about $15 a piece. Better off trying to get them from a junkyard. Take your time to remove them. They are harder plastic than the SLT stickers but the left part of the V will brake off if pried too hard. You can separate the MAGNUM from the V8 if you are handy with a Dremel and good at polishing the cut areas.

Message: Cool, thanks Wayne. And I was complaining to my friends that I really didn't have much to do this weekend so a scavenger hunt doesn't sound like a bad idea!

Message: while we're on the topic of applying and removing badges, i was wondering if there is any "easy" way of removing them off the painted surface of our beautiful trucks without any damage done to the paint? I would like to remove my Dakota Sport off my 95' Dak. It isn't a flat decal like on the Gen III Daks, it is more of a raised plastic similar to the SLT decals. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Ed Henry
P.S. I don't care about saving the decal to use again, just care about saving my paint!

Message: The badges and stickers peeled right off of my Dak using a hot air gun to soften the adhesive, and then alchohol to remove the remaining adhesive.
If I had known they were so valuable I would have used a trick I saw a bodyman use. He slid a piece of dental floss down the sheet metal and used it to "saw" between the emblem and body panel, holding the floss in tension between his hands. The emblem came off perfectly. Some detailing spray (like ya use with a clay bar) will lube things up nicely.

Message: Eddie, Joe GS has a better way than I do but I just used a plastic putty spreader to get under an edge and pulled them off by hand. I didn't need a hot air gun because I live in Louisiana and it is hot enough without one. On cooler days I just park next to a politician. They practically fall off from all the hot air.
