Subject: clanging noise from under carriage

Hello, I just found this site while surfing the web looking for Dakota info. At any rate I bought an 01 QC 4x4, 4.7, Auto, T/H package 2 months ago and soon after I began driving it I noticed a clanging/ping noise coming from somewhere underneath (seems to be more toward the rear)when driving on the street and hitting the slightest bumps. This is intermittent as it comes and goes at it's own will. I'm scheduled to bring it in tomorrow for the dealer to look at. Have any of you QC owners had this problem? I think it's the exhaust banging against something. It sounds like there's something loose underneath.

There is this little thing at the rear of the truck.
It is a heavy tube that is kind of susspended. I
think its a counter weight to help with the
handling. I found it while I was just checkin the
under carriage out. Its weird, but if it works
who cares??

Thanks to RJ letting me know what that clinging noise was. It was the heat shield between the exhaust and the cab. Cheap sheet metal clanging against each other where they join with one bolt. Took bolt out, sliced finger, put in some 3M tape, put on bandaid, put bolt on, washed hands, put another bandaid on, tightened bolt, kicked front tire, wala no more clinging noise.

Thanks loads RJ
