Anyone use any of the Zaino products? I see they have an entire kit for sale for roughly $85 but that seems kind of steep. Also, these clay bars, what are they all about? I've actually never seen one so I'm curious as to how well they work. Seems to me it's a process that shouldn't be done to the paint all that often. Anyone?

Aaron

I buy all of my Zaino products individually. The best stuff!!! But everyone has there preference.

I started small and built up to where I use everything.

Clay bar is the key to a great final look. It is amazing how much crap is on your paint. If you truck is new you can prolly get away without it.

The Clay bar removes all of the contaminates fromt he road, All the crap that bakes on from the sun. Brake dust, dirt and road grime. Also good for removing over spray from your neighbor painting his house. YOu should only do this once. As long as you keep up on it the wax protects from dirt build up again.

Go to the Zaino site and read everything it is all true and good info.

The thing I like most is the wax is easy to remove unlike others that you seem to have to rub hard and long to remove. The key to ease is in the tips and tricks on thier site.

Make sure you get the Ultra High Gloss spray. It is great after a coat of wax is on and you wash it. Finish the job with the spray.

Thanks for the response Chris. So what you're saying is that the Clay Bar, the Wax for clear coat paint and the spray is the way to go? The rest of the stuff in the kit is more or less just overkill because some Dawn dishsoap would be suffice for washing?

Aaron

That is a start. I would venture into the Trim protectant as well, I use this inside and out. Also get the swirl scratch wax and not the polish first. Use Dawn dish soap only.

You definately get what you pay for in a Zaino kit, best shine and look I've ever seen out of a detailers kit. If you want tips on how to get the most out of your clay bar, look it up online from some autodetailer sites, if you have the time and the elbow grease a clay bar will work wonders.

Dawn dish soap is for dishes!! It works great on your vehicle when you want to strip all wax/polish off of it to start fresh.

Zaino is great stuff, you get what you pay for. If you really want your truck to stand out it'll cost a bit and it requires a little more attention but when it starts to glow you know it was worth it!

Selcher,
Just to clarify. Only use the Dawn to remove old wax. Don't use it every time you wash. Any good car washing soap will do, so choose your own brand. But, use a soap specifically designed for cars for regular washing. I personally like Zymol, but have never tried Zaino so I can't really say which is better. I like the fact that I can get the Zymol locally, though I may try Zaino next time I run out just to check it out. The clay bar is supposed to be an alternative to buffing. I just buffed my truck and I'll tell you that it looks like brand new. I really can't see the clay bar doing as good a job as a buffing, but again I've never tried it. Anyone out there that has done both that can comment and compare?

The clay bar is used to remove dirt and contamints from your paint. If you want to use Zaino, you must remove the old wax off your paint(hence dawn dish washing detergent). You could then clay bar it for a deep clean and smooth surface. Next you put on a primer zaino (Z-1 polish lok) to lock the zaino wax to the paint. After that dries, you apply the zaino wax over the dry Z-1(don't remove the Z-1). Let the wax cure (this could take as short as 1 hr or long as 4-5hrs). After it's dry then wipe off with a 100% terry cloth. Zaino application are steps and not a simple cleaner wax. I found to Zaino products to be good and easy to wipe on and off but time consuming (you could even apply it in the sun). I think it was worth it. Check out

Hey thanks guys for all the responses. It would seem that Zaino is the way to go. A question for NJQCDak, wouldn't the "ZFX™ Flash Cure Accelerator Additive" suffice over the Z-1 Polish Lok? The website states:

ZFX™ can be used with any of our Show Car Polish products, including Z-2™, Z-3™ and Z-5™. Plus, ZFX™ makes using Z-1™ Polish Lok unnecessary on cars that have been clayed and thoroughly cleaned with Dawn dishwashing liquid.

Using ZFX™ in place of Z-1™ Polish Lok will reduce drying time, increase gloss factor, extend durability level, and instantly cure to allow multiple immediate coats! No more waiting between coats!

Seems like a good buy and it comes with their kit. Has anyone purchased their $85 kit? Comes with all the stuff needed. I think I might be putting the ole Zaino on my truck soon.

Regards,
Aaron

Yes the ZFX replaces the Z-1. It also makes it so you can apply another coat right after the first instead of waiting 24 hours.

Sorry I was not clear about the Dawn soap. It does remove all wax and any wax. When I strip the wax I use some dawn in water with a small brush to clean all trim parts of any wax build up from other waxes. (I detail as well on the side)
ONLY USE DAWN TO STRIP WAX OFF!!!

If you have used dish soap on your truck or car you have ruined the finish since they contain abrasives. Dawn does not harm the finish only removes the wax.

I have not bought the kit but I just checked it out, GET IT!!! I wish they had that when I started using it. I would add is the Z-16.

I did not know you could order on-line now. Cool, I have been mailing in my order for years.

I disagree that Zaino takes a while to put on. The ease of removal makes it easier to use and less time to remove.

Use 100% cotton towels made in USA only.

Zaino is the best..but in a pinch if I want a good product that works ON EVERYTHING...try Honda Cleaner and Polish. It comes in an aerosol can avaiable at most motorcycle shops. Price is between $3-6.
Works particularly well after a wash because it you can spray it everywhere...interior,dash, door trim, jambs, glass, trim. fenderw ells..etc. Makes all the plastic look "factory new" without that hokey Armor All cheesy wet look. First application is the hardest..but after that its a breeze. Car washes take all of 20mins, front to back...and after you dry the car start to detail one spot at a time with the Honda polish. Beads up just like Zaino too. Plus the more applications the easier it gets. 2 cans will do a Club Cab Dakota with a matching tonneau cover.
It really works good on front fascia areas too...like the grill and fog lights.
I personally concentrate on the front, hood, roof and tonneau cover. The sides need little to no maintenance because they dont get exposed as much.

Thanks Sletcher!

Turtle,

One of those things you have to try for yourself!

Anyone can say how good something is but only you know if it really is or not.

I look at it this way, Everyone say's how great something is or looks after they buy it and install it on their truck but how great is it really? Most people will never talk down something they bought or use because they bought it. Unless it is really crap, their opinion will generally say it is the best thing or how great it is.

Lots of people follow someones lead and because they say it is awesome or cool or whatever and by the power of suggestion they beleive it is great. Although it really sucks! But then again we all have our own tastes so really dont be like everyone else, try it you may like it.

Ditto forxfour. I just read Zaino's new ZFX. I bought my Zaino stuff about 9 months ago and only applied it about 3-4 months ago. ZFX sounds alot quicker and easier than waiting. I read some people wait until the next day for curing. This kind of breaks the process up. Either way Zaino is great stuff. I plan to apply another coat before the fall on all my cars. Show car shine!!!!

I don't really like ZFX, personally. I love the rest of the Zaino products but I believe the ZFX is lame.

ZFX is nice and it does work. You can put a couple coats on real quick. They all do stay just as well too. It's just as effective. It's nice to do when you have an evening to just wax the vehicle and get all your waxing done just before winter.

What's the problems then?

It's expensive. Even when you use the reccomended amount, it goes pretty quick. For me, I didn't even need to be using it most of the time.

If you wash your car once a week and wax once or twice a month, ZFX is overkill. When you keep up with a regular schedule of Zaino waxing, you don't need ZFX. It wont make a difference. If you are used to putting on a Z2 coat (Z5 once in a while) after like every couple times you wash your car, you're better off sticking with Z1.

The best use I have found ZFX for is when you are in colder climates and dont want to wait an entire damn day for it to dry. It's otherwise just an expensive item not many people need.

I also don't like putting several coats on a car unless I am going to like a car show the next (or later that) day. I don't like it cause doing that task is too much like work. I like to enjoy washing my car.

If you are the person that only waxes every couple months ZFX is for you.

If you are the person who doesn't mind spending some extra time applying 2 or 3 coats, ZFX is for you. No point in putting on only 1 with ZFX??

If you are applying the wax in Fargo, ZFX is for you.

And if you live somewhere you have a scorching sun. Be Lucky, ZFX is really NOT for you. Your wax will dry just as fast.

Once the Zaino has hazed, you can wait a day, month, or year, it's not going to do anything else. Doesn't matter if it has hazed in an hour or a day, it's done. Don't worry about waiting a day.

Chris,

I live in Canada so ZFX is for me! ; ) I don't mind putting 3 coats of wax on in one evening so ZFX is for me! ; ) I usually only wax once per month so ZFX is for me! ; ) I do tend to wax the truck during the summer months at least twice a month so possibly ZFX would be overkill in those cases. I could simply just keep applying the regular wax or swirl wax once in a while without the ZFX.

xplikt has a Great point! ZXF maybe overkill for some. I got a whole bottle of Z-1, Yeah it is simple to apply but still takes time. If you are not applying multiple coats in the same day then ZXF is not for you maybe.

For me I like to be able to use the time to apply the Z-1 to add a second coat or a polish wax to it same day/night.
The winter time gets me the most. Frequent mudding trips and lots of washing, new scratches, road grim build up from non stop rain. The paint takes some abuse.

Zaino is the best! My opinion of course!
