I've got a 2001 CC 4.7 PT4x4 Auto 23k miles that's developed a strange problem. ALL the lights come on at the 4wd selector switch about every 10-30 seconds while driving. It's not happening on every ride, just once in a while. Switch works fine when stopped and it doesn't seem to be doing anything at the T-case as far as changing drives. I will be bringing it in to the dealer soon for this, but hate the fact it can't be recreated all the time. Any suggestions I can pass along. Maybe Selector Mode Sensor or Transfer Case Module? I've got the FSM but there's no listing of my problem.

Thanks,
Greg '01 CC 4x4 4.7 Auto

Is your service 4 wheel drive light coming on? Either all the time or just when the led's go crazy? On my 01 4x4 4.7 the service 4 wheel drive light would come on and the led above the rotary 4x4 knob would go out, than later it would be fine, now the light is off all the time and the service 4 wd light is on all the time too, no 4 wheel drive now at all either, took it to the dealer and they ( after about 3 hours) figured it out to be the transfer case control module, their replacing it friday. Mine has about 45,000 on it now

That's exactly what it started to do yesterday. Just as you stated. It will be at the dealers tonight to see if they can find it. Now I've got somewhere to steer them. Thanks.

Had some new gremlins pop up today on the way to the dealer. Seatbelt light was on(seatbelt was being used), door ajar light and chime was doing it's thing on and off( which made the dome light go on and off) ,brights were flashing once in a while(flash to pass), Service 4wd light was going on and off, and there were no lights on for the T-case selector knob. This leads me to believe the Central Timer module/controller as it lists all the problems I've got as being controlled by that in the big FSM. I'll keep you posted on what is found by the dealer.

Well after the dealership having my Dakota for 2 days to replace the TCM (timer control module), I went to pick it up today. They needed both remote keyfobs to reprogram to the new module. The tech hooked up the DRB and couldn't find all the modules. He tried for a while to manually reprogram the remotes without success. Everything works except the remotes. Only guess he had is that they put the wrong unit in my truck. They're gonna look at it again tomorrow to find out what's up.

Now I'm confused a bit. On the workorder in my hand it says, "Found bad TCM and replaced TCM." Isn't that the Transmission Control Module? Shouldn't it be CTM, Centrol Timer Module? Maybe just a typo. It states in my FSM to make sure to retieve the settings in the CTM before swapping it out so you can put them in the new one for anything programmable. Wonder if they did that. Sure hope they know what they're doing.

Just got my truck back from the dealer. All seems good with it again. They said they forgot the ground wire for the new CTM after they replaced it yesterday. The service manager said that they call the CTM the TCM and that's where my confusion started. I still think they are wrong, but hey, got my truck back in working order. Time will tell if it stays that way.
Hardbody, did you get yours fixed up?

Sounds similar to mine when it needed the new Central Timer Module only I had all kinds of other lights and chimes going on and off as well. They replaced it and everythings worked good since. Had to have both remotes with me to have them reprogrammed to the new module. If yours gets replaced, make sure everything on your remotes work the way it did before. Had to go back a couple of days later to get mine done over. Nothing major, but just wasn't the same.

I have another appointment this saturday, have to leave my truck all day this time. They installed a new transfer case control module last time but the 4 wheel drive still didn't work, tech said he can comunicate with the module thru the computer but some output that is supposed to have 5 volts on it doesn't, they had 3 techs looking at the truck and finally they tried to call chrysler in detroit to ask them, ( of course this was on a friday and no one answered at chrysler) so he put the dash back together and off I went to wait for them to call chrysler. The following tuesday I was still waiting to hear from the dealer, wedsday they called and said chrysler wants them to pull a central timing module, ?? out of a truck on the lot and see if that fixes the problem. I don't know if it has to be out of my year (2001) or any year but I told them I wasn't paying for a part out of a 2 year old truck if it fixes the problem. So until saturday stay tuned.

I had one drive me crazy for a while---- I turned out to be a CTM (central timer module)

The XCM (transfer case module) and related wiring, servos, switch, etc is fairly simple.

The whole system just was not making sense as to why it would not work.

The strange part is that the CTM and XCM are not interconnected by anything but the bus (communication wires) Every other module is on the same bus and was not having problems.

BTW... there were some unrelated "ghost" codes in the CTM that have nothing to do with 4WD.

I still don't understand what is so wrong with a manual transfer case that makes a module, motor, switch and a bunch of wiring more attractive.

Got my truck back yesterday from the dealer, I had to leave it there all week and tuesday an adjuster from the extended warranty company was coming to look at what they found was wrong. They approved the claim and ordered the parts they replaced the transfer case module last week and the 4 wd still didn't work so than they found the CTM was bad and replaced that. They say it's fixed now so I'll have to give it time and see if it stays fixed, I'm sure it will. Total cost to me was $118 ( $100 deductible, and $18 shop supplies). I had a ford focus rental all week, what a pc of crap!! at least they paid for it and it got 24 MPG!!
